Ice Is Dangerous; Skating Not Safe at Outdoor Ponds

The skating ponds at Lakeside and Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Parks continue to be closed, as the ice is weak and won’t hold the weight of skaters. Cold temperatures and high winds have produced a thin, smooth ice cover on both ponds, which is enticing to skaters. But Park officials warn that cracking is appearing away from the edges and the ice is much thinner than it appears.

Ice Skating Not Safe at Outdoor Ponds

Thin ice appears smooth, but is dangerous

High winds and low temperatures have produced a thin, smooth ice cover on both Lakeside and Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park ponds. While the ice may appear to be perfect for skaters, officials at the Parks & Recreation Department warn that the ice isn’t thick enough for safe activity.
