Ice Skating Not Safe at Outdoor Ponds

Thin ice appears smooth, but is dangerous

High winds and low temperatures have produced a thin, smooth ice cover on both Lakeside and Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park ponds. While the ice may appear to be perfect for skaters, officials at the Parks & Recreation Department warn that the ice isn’t thick enough for safe activity.

The weather forecast calls for continued cold temperatures, and it is hoped that the ponds will be open for skating by the end of the week. More information will be available as conditions change.

While the ponds remain unsafe for skating, red lights and flags will be displayed at the sites. Stay safe this winter by following the rules and guidelines of the City and the Parks and Recreation Department.
