McMillen Park Community Center Architect Chosen

Fort Wayne, Ind.The Board of Park Commissioners Thursday approved the recommendation to have MSKTD & Associates design the renovation of the McMillen Park Community Center, a Legacy Fort Wayne project.

On March 6, 2013, the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department accepted proposals from architectural and engineering firms to renovate the McMillen Park Ice Arena building. The project will be a community center for all ages that will include sports and recreation as well as educational, social, and health and fitness programs. Seven companies submitted proposals for this project. Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Administration, after careful review, awarded the project to MSKTD & Associates. MSKTD will be responsible for all design necessary for bidding the construction work and will handle project management through completion. This will be Phase 1 of the project. Additional phases will be needed to complete the renovation.

To ensure the future McMillen facility would meet the community’s ongoing needs, the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department held public meetings in the spring of 2011 to gather ideas. A conceptual drawing derived from the public’s feedback was presented to the community in August of 2011. This Legacy Fort Wayne project is expected to be complete in 2014 at an approximate cost of $2 million.

Formed by Mayor Tom Henry in 2011 with unprecedented public involvement and outreach, Legacy Fort Wayne is an initiative to guide decision making about the Fort Wayne Community Trust and City Light Lease Settlement funds.
