LIFETIME SPORTS ACADEMY TO SPONSOR
FIRST TEE GOLF PROGRAM IN FWCS
Program teaches character values through golf
Fort Wayne, IN—The Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department’s Lifetime Sports Academy is sponsoring the First Tee National School Program in 34 Fort Wayne Community Elementary Schools beginning this spring.
This new in-school golf program that promotes character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf is the result of a cooperative effort between the Indiana PGA, the Indiana Golf Foundation, Inc. and the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department.
The Auer Foundation and the Journal Gazette Foundation donated the funds to purchase golf equipment and to train instructors to teach the curriculum during physical fitness classes. Teachers will receive training on March 24, 2015.
“This quality golf program is both teacher- and student-friendly,” said Parks & Recreation Director Al Moll. “We are confident that our partnership and support will increase participation in the summer Lifetime Sports Academy in 2015.”
Besides introducing children to the game of golf, the First Tee National School Program promotes character development through the First Tee Nine Core Values of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.
The Lifetime Sports Academy will also include First Tee core values, golf instruction and testing into their seven-week summer program.
