Johnny Appleseed Park Closing to Vehicular Traffic

Wing Ding conference scheduled

Fort Wayne, IN:Johnny Appleseed Park will be closed to vehicular traffic July 1 – 6, for security purposes. The entire campground is reserved for the annual Wing Ding conference. The park will reopen to public traffic on Saturday, July 7.

Fireworks Prohibited in City Parks 

Fort Wayne, IN: With the Fourth of July approaching, the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department would like to remind citizens that fireworks are always prohibited in Fort Wayne city parks. Due to the extreme dry conditions and increased fire risk, this City Ordinance will be enforced. Anyone who sees a citizen setting off fireworks in a city park should call the police department at 427-1222.

Park Foundation Officers Named

Fort Wayne, Ind.During the annual meeting today, the Fort Wayne Park Foundation re-elected Madelane Elston and John McMillen. The 2012 -13 Board Members are: Sherrill Colvin, president; Ian Rolland, vice president; John McMillen, secretary; Eleanor Marine, treasurer; Kathy Callen; Madelane Elston; Richard Ferguson; Jerry Fox; Joe Jordan; Sr. M. Elise Kriss; Thomas Quirk; Lynne Salomon; John Shoaff and Richard Waterfield.

What’s Happening at the Botanical Conservatory in July

$1 Night

Thursday, July 5, 5 – 8 pm

On the first Thursday of the month we offer $1 admissions,5-8 pm, for adults and children. Babies and up to age 2 are still admitted free. Enjoy our evening hours and a special discount once a month. For more info, call(260)427-6440.

Splash Pad Hours Extended

Fort Wayne, IN: Now that schools are out for the summer and park activity has increased, the Parks & Recreation Department has received numerous requests to expand splash pad hours. In response, the City’s free splash pads will be open 9 am –9 pm beginning Thursday, consistent with past hours of operation.  Robert E. Meyers Park will continue to be open to the public 9 am –11 pm on days without scheduled events. The Parks & Recreation Department, along with City Utilities, will monitor water usage to adjust the operational schedule if needed.
