Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events and programs are happening the week of September 23, 2019:

Active Aging Week

September 23-27

Community Center, 233 W. Main St. (and additional locations)

To celebrate Active Aging Week, the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with local groups and businesses to offer free activities, events and information to promote the benefit of leading an active, healthy and engaged lifestyle at age 50 and older. The Community Center downtown will offer free Active Aging Week tournaments starting Monday, September 23. Participants must be 50 years or older and may enter as many tournaments as they’d like, but are required to sign up at least two days before each event. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each tournament. Call 260-427-6460 for more details and to register.

Riverfront Film Series: Troop Beverly Hills

Saturday, September 28

Promenade Park, 202 W. Superior St.

Join Troop Beverly Hills for one night only as they rough it in the great outdoors at Promenade Park. Come to the most marvelous jamboree in Fort Wayne, complete with scout patches and Girl Scout cookies. We will set up camp and enjoy our favorite hometown actress, Shelley Long, on the big screen in this family-friendly classic. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks. Activities begin at 6:45pm and the movie starts at 7:30pm. The event is FREE with no registration required. All ages and fabulous wardrobes welcome. Reduced Golf Greens Fees

Foster, McMillen, and Shoaff Park Golf Courses

Fall reduced golf fees begin September 16 at all three city golf courses. Specific fees and additional information can be found at fortwayneparks.org or by calling one of the three golf courses: Foster – 260-427-6735; McMillen – 260-427-6710; Shoaff – 260-427-6745

Riverfront Boat Tours

Promenade Park, 202 W Superior St.

Learn more about our city through its riverfront. Relax and enjoy the scenery on one of Riverfront Fort Wayne’s themed boat tours. Tours depart from the south boat dock at Promenade Park. No food or beverages are permitted on the tours. Make your reservations at riverfrontfw.org or by calling (260) 427-6000 at least one week in advance. Passengers must be at least 10 years of age, and reservations are $12 per person. For more information, contact Megan Butler at (260) 427-6248.

 

Botanica Jones: “Botanica Jones: Scientist, Merchant or Thief?”

Open through November 17

Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun St.

At this garden exhibit in the Botanical Conservatory, guests can visit a wealthy Englishman’s garden, showcasing plants brought back by “Botanica Jones,” a plant explorer of the late 1800s through early 1900s. Visitors can decide whether they have the passion to join these botanical elite. The “Botanica Jones” exhibit is sponsored by the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation, the Flora Dale Krouse Foundation, the M. E. Raker Foundation, WAJI Majic 95.1 and PBS 39.
