What’s Happening at the Conservatory

March 2019

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events are happening at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory in March:

“Hundred Acre Wood” Winter Exhibit

Through April 21

This winter, come in from the cold to discover the enchanting world of Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends. Visitors will find Eeyore, Rabbit, Piglet and Pooh Bear have made their homes quite comfortably in the Botanical Conservatory’s Showcase Garden. Relive or be introduced to the imaginative stories of A.A. Milne from his books Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner in our version of the Hundred Acre Wood. But watch out for Heffalumps! Hands-on learning stations in the Discovery Gallery help visitors explore how this literature connects to everyday life. Sponsored by Fun 101.7 and Majic 95.1 FM.

Volunteer with the Butterflies!

The Botanical Conservatory needs volunteers for this year’s Butterfly exhibit, coming up in April. Two at a time, paid and volunteer staff provide customer service and exhibit oversight in the Botanical Conservatory’s temporary live butterfly exhibit during public hours. Formal training is required and provided annually. USDA regulation requires that an exhibit containing insects from out of state be constantly staffed to ensure containment. The time commitment for this position involves a 3-hour mandatory training or appropriate refresher training annually, along with as many 2-3 hour shifts as mutually agreeable during 10-12 week run of exhibit from mid-April through early July. Interested candidates should fill out a volunteer application, contact the Conservatory (Liz Firestine – 427-6446) and plan to attend one 3-hour training session. Available sessions are:

  • Tuesday, March 12, 9 am - 12 noon
  • Thursday, March 14, 5 - 8 pm
  • Saturday, March 16 9 am - 12 noon
  • Tuesday, March 19, 1 - 4 pm
  • Wednesday, March 20, 9 am - 12 noon
  • Thursday, March 21, 9 am - 12 noon
  • Tuesday, March 26, 1 - 4 pm
  • Wednesday, March 27, 1 - 4 pm
  • Thursday, March 28, 9 am - 12 noon
  • Tuesday, April 9, 1 - 4 pm
