Mayor Henry thanks volunteers as part of the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service event at Klug Park

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Mayor Tom Henry is joining area volunteers to recognize the seventh annual Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, a nationwide bipartisan effort that highlights the impact of national service in tackling city problems. By unleashing the power of citizens, volunteer programs have a positive and lasting impact—making our cities a better place to live.

On April 11, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel and Volunteer Center Executive Director Ana Etter joined Mayor Henry at Klug Park to thank the group of volunteers who came out to clean up debris and mulch the park. Representatives from the Volunteer Center, Maple Seed Farms, Benchmark, Infinity Outdoor Services, and senior volunteers from the RSVP program, a national service program from the Corporation for National Service.

“I continue to be encouraged by how much our residents want to get involved and do their part to help make Fort Wayne the best city possible,” said Mayor Henry. “A commitment to volunteerism says a lot about our community. We’re fortunate to have caring and giving individuals and groups who are making a positive difference.”

“This is another wonderful example of the successful partnership we have with the Volunteer Center to help organize volunteers and keep our parks clean,” said McDaniel. “We already have 27 playgrounds currently adopted by area groups in our Adopt-a-Playground program and we thank the many community groups that have generously given their time and effort throughout our parks system.”

Groups interested in volunteering to clean up city parks or playgrounds may call 260-427-6400.
