Fort Wayne, IN—To celebrate Active Aging Week, the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department is offering free activities and information booths to promote the benefit of leading an active and engaged lifestyle at age 50 and older.

The Community Center downtown will offer free Active Aging Week tournaments at several locations. Participants must be 50 years or older, may enter as many tournaments as they’d like, but are required to sign up at least two days before the tournament. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each tournament. Call 260-427-6460 to register.

Monday, September 25

  • 8      am, Opening Breakfast
  • 10      am, Cornhole Tournament

Tuesday, September 26

  • 9      am, Pickleball Tournament

Lions Park, Carew & Hazelwood

  • 2      pm, Historic Walking Tour

The 1½-hour tour will include a visit to Parkview Field.

Wednesday, September 27

  • 9      am, Table Tennis Tournament
  • 1      pm, Wii Tournament

Thursday, September 28

  • 10      am, Billards Tournament

  • 9      am, Shuffleboard Tournament
  • 11:30      am, Lunch (For the first 50 Active Aging participants only.)
  • 4      pm, 40th Anniversary Party

Active Aging Week is sponsored by Brookdale Fort Wayne Senior Living Solutions, TLC Management, Humana, Signature Health Care of Fort Wayne, Renaissance Village, Summit City Health and Rehabilitation, The Hearth at Sycamore Village, Chapman Place, McAlister’s Deli and the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department.

Get Active Aging Week, organized by the International Council on Active Aging®, is a weeklong observance that celebrates adults ages 50 and older as fully participating members of society and promotes the benefits of leading an active and engaged lifestyle. It also highlights the ability of older adults to live well, regardless of age or health conditions.
