THE BEACH BOYS, one of America's greatest rock bands, return to Fort Wayne for the first time in over 10 years on Wednesday, September 3 at 7:30 pm.
Formed in Hawthorne, California in suburban Los Angeles, by brothers Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love and their friend Al Jardine, their songs about surfing, cars and romance led to 36 Top 40 songs. The Beach Boys were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, have sold over 100 million records around the world, and are listed at Number 12 in Rolling Stone Magazine's Top 100 Artists of All Time.
Singles included "I Get Around," "Fun Fun Fun," "Surfin' USA," "Be True To Your School," "Little Surfer Girl," "Sloop John B," "Little Deuce Coupe," "Don't Worry Baby," "Wendy," "Help Me Rhonda," "Good Vibrations," "Barbara Ann," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," "Caroline, No" and "Sail On Sailor".
In 1988, The Beach Boys had a number one song again with "Kokomo," their salute to a fictional island in the Caribbean, which has been adopted as the theme song by Kokomo, Indiana here in the Hoosier State.
Lead singer, songwriter and band leader Mike Love is joined on tour by longtime Beach Boy Bruce Johnston, who joined the band in 1964, and plays keyboards and vocals. Dennis Wilson drowned in Los Angeles in 1983, Carl Wilson died of cancer in 1998, and Brian Wilson tours only rarely.
