Demolition work begins on former Franklin School
Site will become a City park

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Demolition work began today at the former Franklin School site on St. Marys Avenue. Mayor Tom Henry and community and neighborhood leaders attended today’s launch of the demolition process. The City of Fort Wayne is investing more than $330,000 for the demolition of the property.

What’s Happening at the Botanical Conservatory in December

High Style Jazz in the Garden

Thursday, December 4, 5:30-7:30 pm

Enjoy a holiday date night downtown at the Botanical Conservatory. You can stroll the decorated gardens of the High Style Holiday exhibit and take in a jazz concert, as well. The Farmland Jazz Band performs in a manner reminiscent of 1920s improvisational jazz while choosing from a repertoire of New Orleans, Dixieland, Standard, and Traditional jazz music along with some original selections. Parks and Recreation Department to be Honored at IPRA Awards of Excellence

Program and Project Award: McMillen Park Community Center

Fort Wayne, IN: The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department has been chosen as the recipient of a 2014 Awards of Excellence Award from the Indiana Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) for the McMillen Park Community Center project. IPRA will present the award publicly at a special awards banquet at the IPRA State Conference in Michigan City on January 15, 2015.

Santa’s Workshop

Start your downtown celebration at the Community Center with free holiday activities for the kids. There will be crafts, refreshments and movies. Donate a new or gently used bear and enter a drawing to win a giant elf bear.  Kids can shop for inexpensive holiday gifts for $2 or less at the North Pole Stop-n-Shop.  This year, there will be a brand new 14 foot tree in the lobby, and tuba-playing Santas will be part of the entertainment.Finally, check out the light display on the Community Center roof when we turn on the lights at 6 pm.
