Winter Solstice Walk/Ride & Campfire
Time: 5:30–8:00 p.m.
Location: Salomon Farm Park, 817 West Dupont Road
When the days grow shorter, it’s a perfect time to come together and create some brightness. The Winter Solstice Walk/Ride & Campfire at Salomon Farm Park invites the community to celebrate in a unique and festive way.
Bring your flashlights, battery-powered lanterns, or even Christmas lights, and join in on the fun. This family-friendly event encourages participants to light up the night on the Pufferbelly Trail and Salomon Farm Trail Loop. Walkers can wear Christmas decorations, lights or even bells, while cyclists are encouraged to decorate their bikes with fun, colorful lights. For safety, all bikes must have a white front light and a red rear reflector.
The 6.5-mile ride will depart promptly at 5:30 p.m. and the 1.65-mile walk will begin immediately after the riders start. Following the trail adventures, everyone will gather back at Salomon Farm for warm refreshments, a cozy campfire and some festive activities. The best part? This event hosted by the City of Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is completely free, thanks to sponsorship by DLZ, a full-service, multidisciplinary, family-and minority-owned professional architecture/engineering and construction consulting firm.
Solstice Lights Hike & Food Drive
Time: 6:00–7:00 p.m.
Location: Lindenwood Nature Preserve, 600 Lindenwood Avenue
For those who love nature, the Solstice Lights Hike & Food Drive at Lindenwood Nature Preserve is a magical way to spend the evening. This event celebrates the Winter Solstice by lighting up the woods with glow sticks, battery-operated lights, and plenty of cheer.
It’s not just about the hike; it’s about giving back too. Participants are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Community Harvest Food Bank. It’s a beautiful way to share the holiday spirit and help those in need.
Bundle up for the hike and prepare to light up the trails to welcome back the sun and the promise of longer days. The event is free, but the memories you’ll make are priceless.
These Winter Solstice events are perfect for all ages and a great way to connect with your community while celebrating the season. Whether you’re walking the trails, riding your bike or hiking through the woods, don’t miss the chance to light up the night and welcome the brighter days ahead.
