Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department officially unveiled the new covered walking bridge at Salomon Farm Park on Tuesday morning. Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel and the family of the late Don Wolf cut the ribbon on the new structure, which is located on the south side of Salomon Farm Park, near Till Road.

“This bridge has been a long time in the making,” Director McDaniel said, “One of Salomon Farm’s most generous supporters, the late Don Wolf, had been talking about building a covered bridge for several years, and this is a wonderful symbol of his great affection for this park.”

Total construction cost for the bridge was $123,640, and Kurt Heidenreich from Engineering Resources designed the structure based on Don Wolf’s vision. The construction style of the bridge mimics the timber-frame construction of the historic barn at Salomon Farm. It is 48’ long and 14’ wide.

Construction began in November and was completed in mid-December. The last piece of the project was a sign that reads “A Bridge to the Future” which represents Wolf’s hope for the project to lead to even more opportunities for visitors to enjoy Salomon Farm Park in its entirety. McDaniel noted that the intention of the project is to eventually lead to more walking trails being built on the southern portion of the land, allowing pedestrian traffic through the covered bridge.
