Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events and programs are happening the week of July 12:

 

Sweet Breeze Boat Tours

Promenade Park, South Boat Dock, 202 West Superior Street

$27/person for a 90 Minute Tour and $17/person for a 45-minute tour

(children 2 and under can sit on an adult’s lap for no charge)

Relax and enjoy a guided cruise on the Fort Wayne Rivers. Sweet Breeze, Fort Wayne’s authentic canal boat replica is offering 45- and 90-minute tour lengths. This fully accessible tour will be a fun experience for everyone! Each tour provides an opportunity to learn something new about Fort Wayne through its riverfront. Book Sale

July 13-15, 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

Book sales are open to the public and feature hardback books for $1, paperback books for 50¢ and DVDs for $1. Other items such as magazines, cards, CDs and puzzles are also available. Donations of these items are accepted year round.

 

Mini Sensory Expo

At the Mini Sensory Expo, all ages are welcome to freely explore popular sensory products, connect with local organizations that offer sensory and adaptive services, and hopefully resolve a sensory issue you may be experiencing. Trek the Trails: Towles Intermediate School

Tuesday, July 13, 6:10 p.m.

Towles Intermediate School parking lot, 420 E. Paulding Rd.

Join local trail users for weekly bike rides this summer to experience Fort Wayne on two wheels. Participants are asked to wear helmets and bring water along for the ride. All participants ride at their own risk. Tuesday rides will continue through the fall. Urban Birdwatching

Thursdays, July 15, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Promenade Park, 202 W. Superior St.

Watch a Red-Tailed Hawk soar above, a Cliff Swallow build a nest, or a Great Blue Heron dive for fish during Urban Birdwatching. Help Cornell University’s Bird Lab track how urban birds use green space. We’ll teach you about identification, ornithology, and how to use your binoculars. We have several pairs of binoculars you may borrow, but you are encouraged to bring you own, if possible. Participants of all ages are welcome. Meet at the Convergence Sculpture at 10:00 a.m.

 

WILD WEST Sessions

Thursday-Saturday: July 15-17, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Drop in for some wild west fun as part of the “Visions of the Old West” garden exhibit! This is an extra chance to explore the wild west through various activities, crafts and demonstrations. Themed monthly topics include gemstone sluices in July, westward pastimes in August, and mining for gold in September. Included with regular Conservatory admission. No registration required.

 

Kenny Cetera’s Chicago Experience

Friday, July 16, 7:30 p.m.

Foellinger Theatre, 3411 Sherman Blvd. (Franke Park)

In 1984, Kenny added his unmistakable tenor vocals to several songs on Chicago 17, the biggest selling Chicago album in history , including the chart- topping “You’re the Inspiration,” “Stay The Night,” “Along Comes A Woman” and “Prima Donna” and was quickly recruited by the band to hit the road for one of the most memorable tours in their history. Kenny Cetera’s Chicago Experience features a full complement of live musicians that make it feel and sound like a true Chicago Experience.

Philharmonic at the Foellinger: Music from the Movies

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic will offer a free community concert at Foellinger Theatre on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. Northeast Indiana’s premier orchestra continues its return to live concerts with an evening of treasured movie music hits. A fun-filled and relaxed evening will be in store for local audiences when Associate Conductor, Caleb Young conducts Music from the Movies. Movie fans will relive musical highlights from their favorite movies through tunes from West Side Story to Harry Potter.

 

Riverfront Sunday Heritage Concert Series: The American Legion Band of Fort Wayne

July 18, 1:00-2:00 p.m.

This 101 year old band was started by Veterans of WWI and continues to provide music for local patriotic events including the return of the Honor Flights at the Fort Wayne International Airport and the Annual Veterans’ Day Breakfast at The Community Center. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and join us for a selection of big band classics at the Sweetwater Bandshell East.

 

Yoga on the Riverfront

Bring your yoga mat to the Ambassador Enterprises Amphitheatre for these FREE yoga sessions along the St. Marys River. This relaxing, 1-hour flow is for all skill levels and led by Chelsea Vona, owner of Discover Yoga coming soon to downtown Fort Wayne.

 

“Visions of the Old West” Garden Exhibit

Stroll down the main street of a not-quite-Ghost Town, listen to ragtime tunes from the honky-tonk saloon and appreciate the wild and rugged beauty of cacti, succulents and wildflowers in the surrounding hillsides. Pump water from the community well, play a game of cracker-barrel checkers in the shade and look over the “WANTED” posters for local outlaws. Summer annuals will make way for autumn chrysanthemums in warm russets, tawny golds and blazing orange. Sponsored by the  M.E. Raker Foundation and Wilson Foundation.

 

Storytime on the Riverfront

Mondays Through August 30, 10:00-11:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Join the Allen County Public Library and Riverfront Fort Wayne on Mondays in a story time session at 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. for fresh air, sunshine and children’s literature! Come to either session — no pre-registration is required.

 

Northside and McMillen Pools open daily

Northside Pool is open daily for open swim 12:30 – 5 p.m. and Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 7 - 9 p.m. McMillen Pool is open daily 1:30 – 7 p.m. Pools will have some restrictions based on current CDC guidelines. Children will enjoy fun and engaging activities with friendly staff. Morning and afternoon snacks are included along with free lunch provided by Fort Wayne Community Schools. Face coverings are required and social distancing protocols will be followed. Morning session participants will pick up a lunch “to go” at the end of the session. Afternoon session participants will pick up a lunch upon arrival for that session.

 

Lifetime Sports Academy at McMillen Park

Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The Lifetime Sports Academy is open to boys and girls ages 7-18 and offers free group lessons in the lifetime sports of golf, tennis and swimming. The program operates Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Group lessons in golf, tennis and swimming will focus on skill development, training, and participation and will be taught by certified coaches and highly trained professionals and volunteers. Participants may come as often as they wish and stay as long as they like. The Fort Wayne Community Schools summer lunch program will also be available at McMillen Park for Academy participants. The Lifetime Sports Academy is funded by the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department and Lifetime Sports Academy Committee and is offered FREE to area youth.

 

2021 Salomon Farmers’ Market

Our vendors produce their goods within a 75-mile radius of and are required to grow their own fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs. Instructor-Supervised AARP Fitness Park Intro Sessions

Wednesdays through July 21

Community Center, 233 W. Main Street

The outdoor fitness park at the Community Center features various pieces of equipment that use one’s own body weight as resistance making them appropriate for any age, gender or ability. The park is open to all ages for use any time, however, a certified instructor will be available at times to demonstrate the proper use of equipment. There is no pre-registration required for these sessions. All FitLot fitness programs are FREE!
