Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is offering the following events and programs on the Riverfront in September:

 

Muddy River Concert Series

Wednesdays, 5:00-8:30 p.m.

 

Riverfront Fort Wayne is hosting a unique community concert series centered around the themes of heritage, culture, and connection. Encompassing the entire south side of the park with an urban cook-out feel, we will be joined by local vendors and organizations, including Historic Fort Wayne Inc., that will focus on activities and information about the history of our rivers and city. Come out and join the fun, purchase food and beverages and enjoy a variety of local music with a focus on the genres of Soul and R & B, Funk, Americana, and Alternative. Music starts at 5:30 p.m. and is free for all to enjoy.

September 1 – Distractions; The Tungstens

September 15 – Adam Baker & The Heartache; The Debutants

September 29 – Swimming[Into]View; The Paper Heart

Ride aboard Sweet Breeze, Fort Wayne’s authentic canal boat replica.

$27/person for a 90 Minute Tour and $17/person for a 45-minute tour

(children 2 and under can sit on an adult’s lap for no charge)

Relax and enjoy a guided cruise on the Fort Wayne Rivers. Sweet Breeze, Fort Wayne’s authentic canal boat replica is offering 45- and 90-minute tour lengths. This fully accessible tour will be a fun experience for everyone! Each tour provides an opportunity to learn something new about Fort Wayne through its riverfront. Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown

Sunday, September 12, 12:00-5:00 p.m.

Promenade Park, 202 W. Superior St.

Come see why Riverfront is Always Moving! Answer polls and express yourself with sidewalk chalk in the Ambassador Enterprises Amphitheatre. Purchase branded merchandise under the blue Riverfront tent. Stop on the Parkview Tree Canopy Trail for a photo opportunity with a beautiful view of Downtown in the background. Enjoy food and beverages at Trubble Riverside Café and Tap; play cornhole, ping pong, and foosball in the Outdoor Games area; splash around in the Doermer Kids Canal; have fun in the PNC Playground; and relax on the urban swings overlooking the St. Marys River. The Calm Water Sensory Tent, a first-of-its-kind therapeutic mobile sensory room, will be available at Promenade Park for 15-minute sessions. In addition to Be A Tourist in Your Own Hometown, celebrate Mexican Independence Day with food from La Michoacana Food Truck and live music.

 

Young Naturalist Series

Young Naturalists (ages 6-12) are invited to an hour of outdoor learning with crafts, games, and fascinating nature. This program is FREE, however, space is limited to 20 children plus their grownups, so pre-registration is required. To sign up, please visit FortWayneParks.org.

Gone Fishing

Thursday, September 2, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Hooked on fishing? Discover what makes a fish a fish, uncover the species we have in our rivers, and

practice casting using the game Backyard Bass. It’s a splashing good time!

Nature Camouflage

Thursday, September 9, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Try to blend in! Come learn about the different types of camouflage and how animals use them to disappear into thin air. Then, play games and activities that turn you into the ultimate stealthy spy!

Free Family Fishing Day

Saturday, September 25, 8:00-11:00 a.m.

South Dock, Promenade Park, 202 W. Superior St.

Take advantage of the last Indiana DNR Free Fishing Day at Promenade Park! We will provide poles, bait, Riverfront swag, and lessons on fishing for the whole family. Try a cast, or drop a line and stay awhile. No experience needed, all fishing equipment provided. First come, first served.

 

Community Chess in Promenade Park

Sunday, September 26, 12:00-6:00 p.m.

Join local chess clubs Fort Chess and Take a Stan Chess Club for free community opportunities to learn and play chess this summer in Promenade Park. Events are free and open to all-ages and all skill levels. Chess instructors will be on-site to teach anyone interested in learning this ancient game of kings played by world leaders for over fifteen centuries.
