Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown

Sunday, September 12, 12:00-4:00 p.m.

Just as visiting tourists do, enjoy Fort Wayne’s leading attractions during this annual celebration when participating residents with a Be a Tourist passport are provided FREE admission to hometown locations including the Botanical Conservatory! Get your group’s passport stamped then visit the seasonal Showcase Garden featuring “Visions of the Old West.” Also, enjoy a FREE concert by “Those Two Guys In Suits & Ties” who will be swingin’ and singin’ in style on the outdoor Terrace from 12:30- 2:30pm. Fall Bonsai Show

Saturday, September 18, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Meet with members of the local bonsai club and learn all about this fascinating hobby! Familiar trees, at a fraction of their size, will have visitors captivated when strolling through a miniature forest. Young plants and pots are available for purchase. Regular admission fees apply. Sponsored by the Fort Wayne Bonsai Club.

 

WILD WEST Session

Thursday-Saturday: Sept 16-18, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Unearth gemstones to take home during WILD WEST Sessions at the Botanical Conservatory! A free bag of soil to sort using an old-fashioned mining sluice is included with regular admission and while supplies last. Additional mining material is available for purchase throughout the “Visions of the Old West” garden exhibit. No registration required.

Stroll down the main street of a not-quite-Ghost Town, listen to ragtime tunes from the honky-tonk saloon and appreciate the wild and rugged beauty of cacti, succulents and wildflowers in the surrounding hillsides. Pump water from the community well, play a game of cracker-barrel checkers in the shade and look over the “WANTED” posters for local outlaws. Summer annuals will make way for autumn chrysanthemums in warm russets, tawny golds and blazing orange. Sponsored by the  M.E. Raker Foundation and Wilson Foundation.

 

$1 Night Insight: Fruit or Vegetable?

Thursday, September 2, 6:00-7:00 p.m.

As summer is wrapping up, learn about different fall vegetables or shall we say fruits? What’s the difference anyway?! On the first Thursday night of the month, Conservatory admission is just $1, parking is free, and there is a special $1 Night Insight fun themed activity from 6:00- 7:00 p.m. No registration required.

Fall Plant Swap

Saturday, September 4, 10-11 a.m.

Bring home an abundance of new plants having brought at least one of your own to swap. We recommend labeling ahead of time and bringing a box or bag for transporting home. Perennials, bulbs and houseplants are preferable this fall. Upon arrival, receive a number that is called in numerical order when it is your turn to pick from the assortment. Swaps are free; however, space is limited and registration is required. Register online or call 427-6000 to reserve your spot. Registration deadline: September 1.

 

Forest Bathing for Youth

Tuesday, September 14, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Registration deadline: September 7

Leave those electronics at home and get in on some nature connectivity with the therapeutic practice of forest bathing. Seasoned guide Christy Knecht will facilitate an experience of reconnecting with nature and deepening awareness while mindfully moving through the garden. Learn more at www.wildcommunion.org. Ages 8-15. Conservatory admission included for one adult guardian to visit for duration of the workshop. Great for homeschoolers!

 

Tai Chi - Skill Building

Starts Tuesday, September 21, 9:30-10:30 a.m. or 5-6 p.m.

Registration deadline: Sept. 14

Fee: $69

Revive your energy levels with this Tai Chi series for beginning to advanced students. Skilled instructor, Sandy Gebhard will help you discover the benefits of this gentle art form that relaxes the body and focuses the mind. Students are also invited to take a self-guided meditative walk in the gardens either after the morning session ends or before the evening session begins. Please bring a water bottle and wear comfortable fitting shoes. Drop-ins are not being accepted at this time. Ages 18+. Registration deadline: September 14.
