Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events and programs are happening the week of September 6:

 

Sweet Breeze Boat Tours

Saturdays and Sundays

Promenade Park, South Boat Dock, 202 West Superior Street

$27/person for a 90 Minute Tour and $17/person for a 45-minute tour

(children 2 and under can sit on an adult’s lap for no charge)

Relax and enjoy a guided cruise on the Fort Wayne Rivers. Sweet Breeze, Fort Wayne’s authentic canal boat replica is offering 45- and 90-minute tour lengths on the weekends. This fully accessible tour will be a fun experience for everyone! Each tour provides an opportunity to learn something new about Fort Wayne through its riverfront. Be a Tourist in Your Own Hometown

Sunday, September 12, 12:00-4:00 p.m.

Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Just as visiting tourists do, enjoy Fort Wayne’s leading attractions during this annual celebration when participating residents with a Be a Tourist passport are provided FREE admission to hometown locations including the Botanical Conservatory! Get your group’s passport stamped then visit the seasonal Showcase Garden featuring “Visions of the Old West.” Also, enjoy a FREE concert by “Those Two Guys In Suits & Ties” who will be swingin’ and singin’ in style on the outdoor Terrace from 12:30- 2:30pm. Come see why Riverfront is Always Moving! Answer polls and express yourself with sidewalk chalk in the Ambassador Enterprises Amphitheatre. Purchase branded merchandise under the blue Riverfront tent. Stop on the Parkview Tree Canopy Trail for a photo opportunity with a beautiful view of Downtown in the background. Enjoy food and beverages at Trubble Riverside Café and Tap; play cornhole, ping pong, and foosball in the Outdoor Games area; splash around in the Doermer Kids Canal; have fun in the PNC Playground; and relax on the urban swings overlooking the St. Marys River. The Calm Water Sensory Tent, a first-of-its-kind therapeutic mobile sensory room, will be available at Promenade Park for 15-minute sessions. In addition to Be A Tourist in Your Own Hometown, celebrate Mexican Independence Day with food from La Michoacana Food Truck and live music.

 

Young Naturalist Series: Nature Camouflage

Thursday, September 6, 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Try to blend in! Come learn about the different types of camouflage and how animals use them to disappear into thin air. Then, play games and activities that turn you into the ultimate stealthy spy! Young Naturalists (ages 6-12) are invited to an hour of outdoor learning with crafts, games, and fascinating nature. This program is FREE, however, space is limited to 20 children plus their grownups, so pre-registration is required. Trek the Trails: Indian Trails Park

Tuesday, September 7, 6:10 p.m.

Join local trail users for weekly bike rides this summer to experience Fort Wayne on two wheels. Participants are asked to wear helmets and bring water along for the ride. All participants ride at their own risk. Tuesday rides will continue through the fall. Outdoor Fitness Park Introductory Sessions

Tuesday 9/7 and Thursday 9/9, 1:30 p.m.

Community Center, 233 W. Main St.

Get an outdoor workout in before it is too cold! Learn the correct way to use the equipment in one of two introductory sessions offered in September. After learning how to use the equipment, come during instructor-supervised times on Wednesday mornings, sign up for a regular class (Outdoor Fitness Fun), or exercise any time. Pre-registration is not required for these drop-in programs but must be completed before class. Participants should arrive 15 minutes in advance to register.

 

“Visions of the Old West” Garden Exhibit

Through November 14, Public hours

Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Stroll down the main street of a not-quite-Ghost Town, listen to ragtime tunes from the honky-tonk saloon and appreciate the wild and rugged beauty of cacti, succulents and wildflowers in the surrounding hillsides. Pump water from the community well, play a game of cracker-barrel checkers in the shade and look over the “WANTED” posters for local outlaws. Summer annuals will make way for autumn chrysanthemums in warm russets, tawny golds and blazing orange. Sponsored by the  M.E. Raker Foundation and Wilson Foundation.

Foster, Shoaff and McMillen Park Golf Courses are open daily, depending on weather and course conditions. Golfers are asked to call ahead to confirm course availability and to reserve tee times:
