Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events and programs are happening the week of September 20:

 

Sweet Breeze Boat Tours

Saturdays and Sundays

Promenade Park, South Boat Dock, 202 West Superior Street

$27/person for a 90 Minute Tour and $17/person for a 45-minute tour

(children 2 and under can sit on an adult’s lap for no charge)

Relax and enjoy a guided cruise on the Fort Wayne Rivers. Sweet Breeze, Fort Wayne’s authentic canal boat replica is offering 45- and 90-minute tour lengths on the weekends. This fully accessible tour will be a fun experience for everyone! Each tour provides an opportunity to learn something new about Fort Wayne through its riverfront. Feather Fest

Saturday, September 25, 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Lindenwood Nature Preserve, 600 Lindenwood Ave.

Join us for Feather Fest, our FREE family-fun birding festival! Lindenwood Nature Preserve has 4 hiking trails and over 70 identified bird species. The event includes: Guided Hikes, Crafts and Activities for Kids, Live Birds from Soarin’ Hawk, Information Booths, and more.

 

Free Family Fishing Day

Saturday, September 25, 8:00-11:00 a.m.

South Dock, Promenade Park, 202 W. Superior St.

Take advantage of the last Indiana DNR Free Fishing Day at Promenade Park! We will provide poles, bait, Riverfront swag, and lessons on fishing for the whole family. Try a cast, or drop a line and stay awhile. No experience needed, all fishing equipment provided. First come, first served.

 

Intergenerational Fishing Derby

September 25, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Lakeside Park, 1401 Lake Ave.

Anglers over the age of 50 can bring a favorite fishing partner under the age of 50 (only one partner per 50+ person) and double the fun and the chance to catch the biggest and most fish! Everyone is invited to stay for a cookout when the fishing derby is over. Derby is from 10:00 am-12:00 pm and lunch starts at

12:00 pm. Fishing licenses are not required to participate in this event, but gear will not be provided. This event is free, however, pre-registration is required. Call 427-6460 to register.

 

Trek the Trails: Tillman Park Trailhead

Tuesday, September 21, 6:10 p.m.

Parking lot near the softball diamonds, 7500 S. Hanna St.

Join local trail users for weekly bike rides this summer to experience Fort Wayne on two wheels. Participants are asked to wear helmets and bring water along for the ride. All participants ride at their own risk. Tuesday rides will continue through the fall. Community Chess in Promenade Park

Join local chess clubs Fort Chess and Take a Stan Chess Club for free community opportunities to learn and play chess this summer in Promenade Park. Events are free and open to all-ages and all skill levels. Chess instructors will be on-site to teach anyone interested in learning this ancient game of kings played by world leaders for over fifteen centuries. Be River SmART: CLEAN DRAINS FORT WAYNE FEST

See unique mural art, focused on storm drains—enjoy festive music, dance performances, local food, and family-friendly activities at the 2021 Friends of the Rivers World Rivers Day celebration. Ride aboard Sweet Breeze, watch river rowing, share river stories, and celebrate our riverfront!

 

FREE Drop-In Sessions at AARP Outdoor Fitness Park

Wednesdays, 10:45 a.m.

Community Center, 233 W. Main Street

Get your outdoor workout in before it is too cold! Stop by during instructor-supervised times on Wednesday mornings. Pre-registration is not required for these drop-in programs but must be completed before class. Please come 15 minutes in advance to register.

 

“Visions of the Old West” Garden Exhibit

Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Stroll down the main street of a not-quite-Ghost Town, listen to ragtime tunes from the honky-tonk saloon and appreciate the wild and rugged beauty of cacti, succulents and wildflowers in the surrounding hillsides. Pump water from the community well, play a game of cracker-barrel checkers in the shade and look over the “WANTED” posters for local outlaws. Summer annuals will make way for autumn chrysanthemums in warm russets, tawny golds and blazing orange. Sponsored by the  M.E. Raker Foundation and Wilson Foundation.

Foster, Shoaff and McMillen Park Golf Courses are open daily, depending on weather and course conditions. Golfers are asked to call ahead to confirm course availability and to reserve tee times:
