“Under the Big Top” Winter Showcase Exhibit

January 8-April 17, Public hours

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Come one, come all to the greatest circus Garden in town! The “Under the Big Top” exhibit continues at the Botanical Conservatory. Marvel at exotic topiary animals and astonishing plant oddities. This winter, everyone is invited to go to the circus and “clown around” under the Conservatory’s Botanical Big Top. Learn more at botanicalconservatory.org. “Living with Wildlife”

Wednesday, February 2, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 2020 West Superior Street

Even in urban hubs, wildlife encounters occur in residents’ backyards, crossing roads and sharing trails. Understanding these animals is key to living with wildlife. Jessica Merkling, north urban wildlife biologist with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Fish & Wildlife will provide information on the following:

  • How to minimize conflicts between humans and wildlife.
  • Best ways to attract beneficial wildlife.
  • How to help residents better understand the animals in their backyards.

Questions will be encouraged at the end of the presentation.

This month’s spotlight is on the exotic animals at the circus!

 

Night Stargazing at the Preserve

Sunday, February 6, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Lindenwood Nature Preserve, 600 Lindenwood Avenue

Join Fort Wayne Parks for a walk in the woods under a winter night sky. Participants will follow the one-mile Trail of Reflection to the Pond and have an opportunity to use a telescope to locate planets and constellations in the galaxy. This is a free event, but registration by January 31, is required for planning purposes.
