“Under the Big Top” Winter Showcase Exhibit

January 8-April 17, Public hours

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Come one, come all to the greatest circus Garden in town! The “Under the Big Top” exhibit continues at the Botanical Conservatory. Marvel at exotic topiary animals and astonishing plant oddities. This winter, everyone is invited to go to the circus and “clown around” under the Conservatory’s Botanical Big Top. Learn more at botanicalconservatory.org. Sweetheart Orchid Display

February 8 to March 13, Public hours

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

A tasteful display of orchids in bloom create a delightfully intimate space in the Botanical Conservatory’s Tropical Garden. Find yourself in a complimentary backdrop with striking Cattleyas, fragrant Dendrobiums, dainty Oncidiums and moth-like Phalaenopsis. Orchids and other memorable plants will be available for purchase in the Conservatory Shop. It’s just the place for a date and an ideal photo opportunity with your sweetheart! This display is included with regular Conservatory admission.

New in 2022, the Conservatory admission is just $1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. every Thursday. Plus, Civic Center Garage parking is validated for free.

 

 Revolutionary War Garrison

Saturday, February 26, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Historic Old Fort, 1201 Spy Run Avenue

Winter on the Indiana frontier? It was never easy! Continental soldiers and militia will perform daily duties and work details. Civilian refugees and local inhabitants will ply their trades; cooking, sewing, and mending. Military drills and training will take place as weather permits. Warm yourself by the fire and witness how an army survived the winter months on the frontier.

 

 Night Stargazing at the Preserve

Saturday, February 26, 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Lindenwood Nature Preserve, 600 Lindenwood Avenue

Twinkle, twinkle little star! Lindenwood Nature Preserve is the perfect place for stargazing on clear winter nights. Use a telescope to locate planets, stars and constellations. It’s a refreshing way to experience the mid-winter sky.

 

 Sunday Heritage Concert Series: Heartland Sings presents a Piano Bar

Sunday, February 27, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 2020 West Superior Street

Join us for an up-close and personal experience with local musicians and musical groups in the Park Foundation Pavilion this winter. Heartland Sings Piano Bar features Lisa Gerstenkorn and David Bobay accompanied by pianist Maestro Robert Nance. The audience will be treated to excellent renditions of favorite songs from the American cultural scene, imbibe on their favorite coffee from the onsite coffee bar, and just might be inspired to sing-a-long. The event is free and donations are encouraged. Seating inside will be on a first-come first-served basis and capacity will vary by performance.
