Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events and programs are happening the week of August 1-7:

 

River, Set, Go! Featuring the Fort Wayne Dragon Boat Races

Saturday, August 6, 9:15 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Promenade Park, 202 W. Superior St.

Riverfront Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation invite everyone to the 3rd annual River, Set, Go! featuring the Fort Wayne Dragon Boat Races. Dragon boat racing originates from China and features 21-person teams paddling down the rivers towards victory as the drums beat out a frenzied rhythm. River, Set, Go! offers an opening ceremony with the Chinese Friends and Families Association at 9:15 a.m. followed by the thrilling spectacle of racing, floating yoga and lawn games in the afternoon, live bands and a paddle parade in the evening, and a floating fire pit finale to cap off an exciting day! Sponsored by ABC 21 WPTA, 97.3 WMEE and Steel Dynamics, Inc.

 

Trek the Trails Bike Ride

Tuesday, August 2, 6:00 p.m.

Swinney Park, near 1600 W. Jefferson Blvd. by the West Baseball Diamond

The 2022 Trek the Trails season continues on Tuesday evenings. Meet near the baseball diamond for a nine mile ride. There is no cost to participate. All experience levels are welcome and participation is at your own risk. Riders are encouraged to wear helmets. Trek the Trails is sponsored by Trek Bikes Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Harley Davidson, and UAW 2209. Storytime at the Park

Wednesday, August 3, and each Wednesday until August 31, 10:00-10:30 a.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion Patio, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Join the Allen County Public Library and Riverfront Fort Wayne for fresh air, sunshine and children’s literature at Promenade Park. Most dates will be held under the awning of the Park Foundation Pavilion. Drop in, it’s free!

 

 

Salomon Farmers’ Market and U-pick Flowers

Wednesday, August 3 and each Wednesday until September 7, 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Salomon Farm Park, 817 West Dupont Road

Find fresh produce, baked goods, honey, homemade pies and artisan goods from local growers and makers. U-pick Sunflowers, Zinnias and other flowers will be available to pick your own bouquet on Wednesdays during the Farmers’ Market and on Thursdays and Fridays at the same hours. U-pick flowers will also be available on Saturdays from 11:00a.m.-7:00 p.m. Prices vary per type. Follow the signs to find the U-Pick fields near the Heritage Barn as some sections will be reserved for photographers with photo passes and picking will not be permitted in those fields.

 

 

River Rangers

Thursday, August 4, and each Thursday through August 25, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Auer Lawn, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Incorporate some STEM learning into your child’s summer experience at the Riverfront. On August 4, it’s all about “Motion and Friction”. River Rangers will explore how different materials and angles affect the speed of a toy car. Participants can earn a STEM badge. This program is free, however space is limited to 25 children. Bee the Change / $1 Thursdays

Thursday, August 4, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

On the first Thursday of the month, a special Bee the Change activity will offer a positive reflection of self-worth and the potential for positive impact in the community beginning at 5:30 p.m. The August Bee the Change theme is “Desert Living”. The Conservatory admission is just $1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. every Thursday. Plus, Civic Center Garage parking is validated for free.

 

 

Tread the Trails

Thursday, August 4, 6:00 p.m.

Tread the Trails is for individuals of all skill levels; runners, walkers and wheelchair users are invited to participate. All Tread the Trails events are five kilometers in distance, with the option for a longer or shorter experience if the participant chooses. All should be prepared with water. Individuals participate at their own risk. Tread the Trails takes place every other Thursday. Tread the Trails is organized by Fort Wayne Public Works and Fort Wayne Trails in partnership with the Fort Wayne Running Club and the City of New Haven. Travel Fort Wayne’s rivers on Sweet Breeze, an authentic 1840 canal boat replica. Choose 90 minute or a 45 minute cruise options on weekends or 60 minute option on Thursday evenings, $27 for 90-minute Saturday/Sunday cruise, $20 for 60 minute and $17 for 45-minute cruise. Foellinger Concert: Stayin’ Alive One Night with the Bee Gees

A Night in Paris

Friday, August 5, 6:00-8:00p.m.

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Celebrate the City of Light & Love with a garden opening event. Savor the best moments and enjoy live music by harpist Anne Lewellen during an evening stroll amongst an inspiring landscape. Also, meet artist Susie Taylor Suraci and admire her paintings inspired by Paris. Hors d’oeuvres and bar will be catered by Club Soda. Tickets are $45 per person or $85 per couple and include two drinks per person. This event is designed for ages 21 and above. The deadline to purchase tickets is Friday, July 29.

The dog swim is open to Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department dog park permit holders only. Four 45-minute sessions will begin at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. with a maximum of 25 dogs per session. Reserve a session by August 4 by phone at 260-427-6000 or in person at the Parks Administration Office at 705 East State Blvd. See the complete rules at www.fortwayneparks.org. Dogs only will be in the water. Handlers must remain on deck. Regular pool admission fees apply for humans.
