Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events and programs are happening the week of August 8-14:

 

River, Set, Go! Featuring the Fort Wayne Dragon Boat Races

Saturday, August 6, 9:15 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Promenade Park, 202 W. Superior St.

Riverfront Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation invite everyone to the 3rd annual River, Set, Go! featuring the Fort Wayne Dragon Boat Races. Dragon boat racing originates from China and features 21-person teams paddling down the rivers towards victory as the drums beat out a frenzied rhythm. River, Set, Go! offers an opening ceremony with the Chinese Friends and Families Association at 9:15 a.m. followed by the thrilling spectacle of racing, floating yoga and lawn games in the afternoon, live bands and a paddle parade in the evening, and a floating fire pit finale to cap off an exciting day! Sponsored by ABC 21 WPTA, 97.3 WMEE and Steel Dynamics, Inc.

 

Dippin’ Dogs

Sunday, August 7, 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Northside Aquatic Center

The dog swim is open to Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department dog park permit holders only. Four 45-minute sessions will begin at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. with a maximum of 25 dogs per session. At this time, all sessions have been reserved, but media are welcome to cover the doggy paddling festivities. See the complete rules at www.fortwayneparks.org. Dogs only will be in the water. Handlers must remain on deck. Regular pool admission fees apply for humans.

 

Trek the Trails Bike Ride

Tuesday, August 9, 6:00 p.m.

Haley Elementary School, 2201 Maplecrest Road

The 2022 Trek the Trails season continues on Tuesday evenings. Meet at Haley Elementary School for a nine mile ride. There is no cost to participate. All experience levels are welcome and participation is at your own risk. Riders are encouraged to wear helmets. Trek the Trails is sponsored by Trek Bikes Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Harley Davidson, and UAW 2209.  Lake Street Dive in concert

Tuesday, August 9, 8:00 p.m.

Foellinger Theatre, 3411 Sherman Blvd.

By blending a variety of genres including pop, rock, R&B, and jazz, the eclectic Lake Street Dive has risen to become one of the premiere alternative rock bands. The band’s most recent album “Obviously,” is referenced as their “first truly abashed yacht rock record” by Rolling Stone magazine (2021) and topped the charts at No. 1 on Americana/Folk, No. 2 on Rock Albums, and No. 2 on Alternative Albums. Storytime at the Park

Wednesday, August 10, and each Wednesday until August 31, 10:00-10:30 a.m.

Join the Allen County Public Library and Riverfront Fort Wayne for fresh air, sunshine and children’s literature at Promenade Park. Most dates will be held under the awning of the Park Foundation Pavilion. Drop in, it’s free!

 

Salomon Farmers’ Market

Wednesday, August 10 and each Wednesday until September 7, 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Salomon Farm Park, 817 West Dupont Road

Find fresh produce, baked goods, honey, homemade pies and artisan goods from local growers and makers. U-pick Sunflowers, Zinnias and other flowers will be available to pick your own bouquet on Wednesdays during the Farmers’ Market and on Thursdays and Fridays at the same hours.

 

Salomon Farm Park U-pick Flowers

Wednesday to Friday, 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

U-Pick flower fields are now available. Prices vary per type. Follow the signs to find the U-Pick fields near the Heritage Barn.  Some sections will be reserved for professional photographers with photo passes and picking will not be permitted in those fields.

  

Muddy River Concert Series: Motor Folkers |Under the Covers

Wednesday, August 10, 5:00 p.m.

Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

This unique free concert series centers around the themes of heritage, culture and connection. Meet the vendors and organizations focusing on activities and information on our city and its rivers. Enjoy local music at 5:30 p.m. Food trucks and beverages will be on site at 5:00 p.m. Admission is free. The Calm Water Sensory Tent will be available from 5:00-8:00p.m. Sponsored by WANE-15 and 96.3 XKE Fort Wayne’s Classic Rock. 

 

 River Rangers

Thursday, August 11, and each Thursday through August 25, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Auer Lawn, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Incorporate some STEM learning into your child’s summer experience at the Riverfront. On August 11, it’s about all things “Bug-tastic.” River Rangers will discover the amazing world of bugs! Participants can earn a Young Naturalist badge. This program is free, however space is limited to 25 children. Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Catch a glimpse of a day in Paris: City of Light & Love in the showcase garden along with the Tropical and Desert gardens in the facility. The Conservatory admission is just $1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. every Thursday. Plus, Civic Center Garage parking is validated for free.

 

Weeknight Sweet Breeze Cruises with Live Music

Thursday, August 11, 6:00-7:30p.m. (90 minute) and 7:45-8:30 p.m. (45 minute)

South Dock, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Delight in some of the best hits from the 50's to today while you experience a 90-minute river cruise on the Sweet Breeze Canal Boat replica. Musical guest, Brett Welch will play songs on saxophone from artists such as The Jackson 5, Of Monsters and Men, The Beatles and the Black Eyed Peas. Tickets are $27 per person for a 90-minute cruise. The 45-minute cruise features live music with flautist Amber Feichter. Guests will enjoy songs covering the 60's to today, with an emphasis on music from the 90s. Join Amber and special guest Michael Shorter playing cajon and a doumbek drum for a grooving time on the river. Tickets are $17 for a 45-minute cruise. Yoga in the Garden

Saturday, August 13, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Greet the day with an all-levels class that stresses the restorative benefits of yoga. Also practice relaxing breathing techniques with certified instructor, Tiffany Holmes as she guides you through a gentle, calming sequence. Bring your own yoga mat. Class will be held outdoors in the shade, weather permitting. The fee is $19 per person and includes admission to the Conservatory. This class is designed by ages 15 and above. Registration is requested by August 6.

 

 Full Moon Hikes

Saturday, August 13, 8p.m. for Youth Hike, 9:15 p.m. for Adult Hike

Lindenwood Nature Preserve, 600 Lindenwood Avenue

There’s nothing like hiking under a full moon! Join us on an adventure to experience the Trail of Reflection in a completely different perspective, including a scenic stop at the pond. The hike will last approximately one hour. The youth hike is designed for age 17 and younger. The adult hike is planned for age 18 and above. John Ondrasik -- the songwriter and performer known as the platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated, Five For Fighting has penned major hits, including the chart-topping "100 Years," "The Riddle," "Chances," "World," and " Superman (It's Not Easy)," which have earned tens of millions of streams and place him as a top-10 Hot Adult Contemporary artist for the 2000s. Ondrasik will have his full band on stage with him.
