Chess on the Riverfront

Saturday, August 27, 12:00-6:00 p.m.

Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

How about a game of chess? Join local players and chess clubs at Promenade Park for some friendly competition or basic instruction. It’s free and open to the public. Sunday Heritage Concert Series features two performances:

Auer Lawn, Promenade Park, 2020 West Superior Street

Members David Hess (Banjo, Vocals), Ed Nystrom (Guitar, Vocals), Ben Porter (Mandolin, Vocals), Jordan Garrett (Guitar, Vocals), and Bo Astrup (Bass) perform and perfect the legacy of bluegrass music.

-Sunday, August 28 3:30-4:30 p.m., The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Players’ Association

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

The talented musicians of the Philharmonic Players’ Association return with a program of classical and pops music that is sure to please all music lovers. Non-perishable food donations are being accepted at this community event. Guests are invited to bring a lawn chair to listen from outside the Park Foundation Pavilion. Trek the Trails Bike Ride

Tuesday, August 30, 6:00 p.m.

Moser Park Trailhead, 601 West Main Street, New Haven

The 2022 Trek the Trails season continues on Tuesday evenings. Meet near the baseball diamonds for a seven mile ride. There is no cost to participate. All experience levels are welcome and participation is at your own risk. Riders are encouraged to wear helmets. Trek the Trails is sponsored by Trek Bikes Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Harley Davidson, and UAW 2209. Join the Allen County Public Library and Riverfront Fort Wayne for fresh air, sunshine and children’s literature at Promenade Park. Meet under the awning of the Park Foundation Pavilion. Drop in, it’s free!

 

Salomon Farmers’ Market

Wednesday, August 31, and each Wednesday until September 7, 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Find fresh produce, baked goods, honey, homemade pies and artisan goods from local growers and makers.

 

Salomon Farm Park U-pick Flowers

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

U-Pick flower fields are now available!. U-pick Sunflowers, Zinnias and giant Marigolds will be available to pick your own fresh bouquet on Wednesdays during the Farmers’ Market and on Thursdays and Fridays at the same hours. Saturday U-pick hours are longer, from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Prices vary per type of flower. Follow the signs to find the U-Pick fields near the Heritage Barn. Food trucks will be available on site on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

 

Bee the Change/$1 Thursday Nights

Thursday, September 1, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

On the first Thursday of the month, a special Bee the Change activity will offer a positive reflection of self-worth and the potential for positive impact in the community beginning at 5:30 p.m. The September Bee the Change theme is “Urban Farming for Good”. No registration is required. While at the Conservatory, catch a glimpse of a day in Paris: City of Light & Love in the showcase garden along with the Tropical and Desert gardens in the Conservatory. Admission is just $1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. every Thursday. Plus, Civic Center Garage parking is validated for free.

 

Tread the Trails

Thursday, September 1, 6:00 p.m.

Moser Park Trailhead, 601 West Main Street, New Haven

Tread the Trails is for individuals of all skill levels; runners, walkers and wheelchair users are invited to participate. All Tread the Trails events are five kilometers in distance, with the option for a longer or shorter experience if the participant chooses. All should be prepared with water. Individuals participate at their own risk. Tread the Trails takes place every other Thursday. Tread the Trails is organized by Fort Wayne Public Works and Fort Wayne Trails in partnership with the Fort Wayne Running Club and the City of New Haven. Weeknight Sweet Breeze Cruises

Thursday, September 1, 6:00-7:00p.m. (60 minute) and 7:15-8:15 p.m. (60 minute)

South Dock, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Explore Fort Wayne history, and muddy river lore aboard the Sweet Breeze canal boat! Tickets are $20 for a 60-minute cruise. Reservations can be made at http://www.RideSweetBreeze.org or by calling 260-427-6000 during regular business hours.

 

Fall Plant Swap

Saturday, September 3

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Swap quality established plants with fellow plant enthusiasts and bring home the same amount of plants, if not more! Perennials, bulbs and houseplants are preferable this fall. Please label ahead of time and bring a carrier to transport. Swaps are free, but space is limited. Reserve your spot by calling 260-427-6000 by September 1.

Saturday, September 3, 3:45 pm. (90 minute), 5:30 p.m.(45 minute)

Sunday, September 4, 1:00p.m. (90 minute), 2:45 p.m. (45 minute), 3:45 pm. (90 minute), 5:30 p.m.(45 minute)

Travel Fort Wayne’s rivers on Sweet Breeze, an authentic 1840 canal boat replica. This fully accessible tour provides an opportunity to learn something new about Fort Wayne through its riverfront. Choose 90 minute or a 45 minute cruise options on weekends. Tickets are $27 per person for a 90-minute cruise, and $17 per person for 45-minute cruise.
