“California Dreamin’” Showcase Exhibit Opens

Saturday, January 14, Public hours, and continues until April 16

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Calling all mamas and papas—find your inner beach bum at the Botanical Conservatory. Bring on the good vibes and hang loose at the botanical boardwalk accented with sun-loving tropical plants and vivid waves of color. Let the kiddos spring into the spirit of surf, sand and sun! Be sure to experience this Cali-cool winter exhibit. Sponsored by the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation, Howard P. Arnold Foundation, Magee-O’Connor Foundation, PNC Charitable Trusts, The Waterfield Foundation, WANE 15 and 103.9 Wayne FM.

 

 

Dance Promenade!

Wednesdays, January 11, 18, 25, February 1 and 8, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Learn some new moves in 2023 at the riverfront. Shuffle into the Park Foundation Pavilion on Wednesday nights to learn and practice a new dance style. Instructors from a variety of local dance groups and schools will offer lessons at the beginning of the night followed by open dancing. The type of dance will rotate to include styles from waltzing to line dancing and also traditional cultural dances. All ages and abilities are welcome. For Real, For Real Comedy Stories

January 12, 8:00-9:30 p.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Riverfront Fort Wayne and the Maumee Mary and Joseph Comedy Festival have partnered to bring some of the best local and regional comedians to Fort Wayne to tell hilariously true stories that are certain to keep the winter evenings warm and full of laughs. On January 12, join the amusement with comedian, Terrance Cassell, aka Deacon of Darkness, aka Satin Struthers, aka T.V.

Cassell has been a pioneer in the Fort Wayne comedy scene since 2009. As one of the original members of B.C.C/ Black Crazy Comedians, he has performed on almost every stage in the city and expanded out to other stages in the region. T.V. has worked with well-known comedians such as Ms. Pat, J. Anthony Brown and Donnell Rawlings. T.V recorded his first comedy album titled "Black Hoosier" during the Fort Wayne Comedy Festival in 2018. T.V. states “audiences better have their boots laced up for laughing.” This event will feature adult content and is designed for ages 18 and above. Tickets are $10 in advance at www.fortwayneparks.org or $15 at the door. The maximum capacity is 150 people. Book Sale

January 10-12, 8:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Community Center, 233 West Main Street

Book sales are open to the public and feature hardback and paperback books, CDs, DVDs for low prices. Other items such as magazines, cards and puzzles are also available. The Community Center will accept donations of gently-used books year-round.

Kerstin Glaess: “Seascapes”

January 14-April 15

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Kerstin Glaess is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist working primarily in oil, collage and photography. She is best known for her paintings based on photographs and memories from her worldwide military adventures as a child. Kerstin continues to be inspired by a nature collection of flora, fauna and landscapes from her various homes across two continents, two countries, eleven states, one U.S. Territory and counting! Her diverse collections of collages and drawings focus on the shared human experience teasing the borders between dreamscapes and reality. Seascapes is fittingly on display during the California Dreamin’ Showcase Exhibit at the Botanical Conservatory.
