Literacy Expo at Promenade!

Sunday, April 23, 1:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

Park Foundation pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Join us for the very first Riverfront Literacy Expo in celebration of World Book Day. Learn about programs and organizations that provide reading assistance and other literacy services in Fort Wayne. There will be activities for the entire family, including book readings, meet and greet with local authors, an open mic poetry reading from 11:00-noon and  a poetry scavenger hunt. Guests can also check out a book from the Human Library, learn about local sports teams reading programs, read to a pet from Animal Care and Control, grab a bite from a food truck and more. Donate gently-used children’s fiction and non-fiction books to benefit mini libraries in local parks. This FREE community event is a great way to engage and learn through others perceptions, struggles and growth by sharing experiences and various forms of literature.

 

The Siege at Kekionga: Tecumseh’s Uprising

Tuesday, April 18, 6:30 p.m.

Local author and historian, Jim Pickett, will present part two of his lecture series concerning what he discovered while researching for his historical fiction ‘You Are There’ adventure stories. Mr. Pickett, the author of The Bones of Kekionga, The March to Kekionga and The Siege at Kekionga: Tecumseh’s Uprising picks up with his lecture, map and picture presentation a year after the 1790 Battle of Kekionga. Covering St. Clair’s Defeat and Anthony Wayne’s march to Fort Wayne, the author finishes his discussion with the seven-day 1812 attack on Fort Wayne.

 

 

Drop-in Classes at AARP Sponsored Fitness Park Powered by FitLot

Mondays, April 17 to June 12, 9:30a.m.-10:15 a.m..

Community Center, 233 West Main Street

Learn how to strengthen and tone your muscles using resistance training that is appropriate for just about everyone. This free, weekly drop-in class is scheduled on Mondays from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. until June 12. Individuals can also stop by on their own to use the equipment. Please arrive by 9:15 a.m. to drop-in.    

 

 

Storytime on the Farm

Friday, April 21, 10:30 a.m.

Listen to stories, sing songs, and maybe even make some animal sounds as you and your little one have fun learning together. This story time is designed for ages 2-6 with an adult. Register for free with the Allen County Public Library at www.acpl.libnet.info/event/7561946. Space is limited. After Storytime, stay for a hay wagon ride around the farm. The cost is $5/person (age 2 and under free). No pre-registration is necessary for the wagon ride.

Slightly Used Bulb Sale

April 6-April 30, Public hours

This annual sale features slightly used tulips, daffodils and hyacinths from the Botanical Conservatory’s spring exhibit. Located in the outdoor Sales Garden, bulbs sell for $1.95/pot and are ready to plant in preparation for next year’s bloom! Purchases are made through the Conservatory Shop while supplies last. Admission is not required to shop.

Thursdays, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Find your inner beach bum and good vibes when you experience the California Dreamin’ showcase exhibit along with the Tropical and Desert gardens in the Conservatory. Admission is just $1 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. every Thursday. Civic Center Garage parking is validated for free.
