Mother’s Day Plant Sale

Friday-Sunday, May 12-14

Just in time for spring planting, the Botanical Conservatory offers over 700 varieties of plants at the annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale. Shop masses of locally grown herbs, vegetable starts, flowering perennials and native plants joining a host of annuals, mixed containers, hanging baskets, houseplants, bonsai and a variety of seeds. Essentials like potting soil and compost worms are also available. A team of knowledgeable plant advisors are even ready to answer questions and offer suggestions! This annual fundraiser supports Fort Wayne’s very own Botanical Conservatory. Sponsored by: Majic 95.1 WAJI and Fox55.

 

Mother’s Day in the Garden

Saturday & Sunday, May 13 & 14, Public hours

Plan a special outing to the Botanical Conservatory where Moms get in FREE on Mother’s Day weekend. Drop by Conjure Coffee, browse the Conservatory Shop, visit live butterflies and admire all the lovely garden displays together. The first 800 mothers to visit receive a free plant! Registration Opens for the 2023 Senior Games on May 8, 2023

Games Scheduled June 3 to July 5

The annual Senior Games features more than 40 exciting events designed to develop physical and mental strength, balance, lower blood pressure, increase self-confidence, increase mobility and extend life expectancy. Games are open to all men and women age 50 and older. Entry fees are $1 per event until June 2. After that date fees increase to $2 per event. Forms are available online at www.FortWayneParks.org and also in print form at the Fort Wayne Community Center, 233 West Main Street. The 2023 Senior Games is sponsored by Parkview Heart Institute, Indiana Donor Network, American Senior Communities, IU Health, Park Place Senior Living, Honey Baked Ham, WANE-15, WOWO and United Healthcare.

 

 

Sensory Workshop Series:

Friday, May 12, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Bubble Wrap Painting

Park Foundation Pavilion, 202 West Superior Street

Take control of your sensory needs through crafts, discussions with sensory professionals and other resources. This spring Riverfront Fort Wayne will offer DIY crafts that involve all five senses. Use creative abilities on May 12 to paint with bubble wrap or just have fun playing with the pop able plastic. Sessions begin promptly at 6:10 p.m. Thanks to the generosity of the AWS Foundation, this program is offered free to the public, however registration is required. Hurshtown Reservoir is Open for the Season

Hours: 7:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m.

Hurshtown Reservoir, 16000 Roth Road, Grabill, IN

Hurshtown Reservoir may be the best fishing spot in Allen County. It also features a 2.75 mile walking path, areas for picnics, an outdoor volleyball space and kayak and rowboat rentals. Admission is only $5 per car or $1 per person to walk or bicycle in. Season passes are also available.

 

 

Yoga on the Riverfront

Sunday, May 14, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

This free, relaxing one-hour flow yoga class is for all skill levels and led by owner of Discover Yoga, Chelsea Vona. Bring your own yoga mat to Promenade Park or borrow one for the class.

 

 

Sunday Heritage Concert Series: Joy Bell

Sunday, May 14, 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

The musician Joy Bell will feature a combination of pop, rock, blues and Flamenco music. Concerts are free and open to all ages. Seating will be on a first come first served basis.

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory. 1100 South Calhoun Street

Live butterflies have landed at the Botanical Conservatory bringing with them an array of natural beauty and wonder. Watch in awe, their wings in flight, as they flash with color pigments and refracted light. Observe exotic butterflies emerging from their chrysalides right before your eyes! An epic display of multicolored flowers and foliage elevates this annual spring exhibit. Sponsored by English Bonter Mitchell Foundation, Ian and Mimi Rolland Foundation, The Waterfield Foundation, “In memory of Jo Ann and William Wyatt,” 97.3 WMEE and 21Alive.

 

Trek the Trails

Tuesday, May 9, Meet at 6:00 p.m.

Shoaff Park, 6401 St. Joe Road, Conklin Pavilion

The 2023 Trek the Trails season continues on Tuesday evening. Meet at Shoaff Park’s Conklin Pavilion for a 7.5 mile bike ride. There is no cost to participate. All experience levels are welcome and participation is at your own risk. Riders are encouraged to wear helmets. Trek the Trails is sponsored by TREK Bicycles, Freedom Cycle, VS Engineering, UAW Local #2209, and Three Rivers Velo Sport.
