Hotel California: A Salute to the Eagles

Saturday, July 1, 8:00 p.m.

This Southern California group is the ONLY show to have "Official Authorization" to perform the Eagles catalog of music. For more than three decades, Hotel California: A Salute to the Eagles has touched the hearts of fans all over the world by respectfully and accurately reproducing the Grammy award winning sounds of this great American songbook. So join us now...on a trip down a dark desert highway…feel the cool wind in your hair...it’s time to check into the Hotel California. Travel Fort Wayne’s rivers on Sweet Breeze, an authentic 1840 canal boat replica. This fully accessible tour provides an opportunity to learn something new about Fort Wayne through its riverfront. Choose 90 minute or 45 minute cruise options on weekends. Tickets are $30 per person for a 90-minute cruise, and $20 per person for 45-minute cruise. An Herban Garden Showcase Exhibit

Foellinger Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Digest the community impact of urban gardening and see herbs that flourish, mushrooms that thrive and rooftops that grow. Forage some more to discover dynamic graffiti art and container gardens accompanying uptown views from your local stoop. It’s a beautiful season in the neighborhood at the Botanical Conservatory’s own herban garden. Sponsored by: the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation, Waterfield Foundation and WANE 15. The Conservatory will be open on Tuesday, July 4.

  

44th Annual Senior Games

Daily until July 6

Various locations, including the Fort Wayne Community Center, 233 West Main Street

The goal of the Senior Games is to promote the benefits of remaining active and physically fit and to encourage all adults over age 50 to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Festivities will start with an opening breakfast and health fair along with the torch lighting ceremony on Monday, June 5 at the Fort Wayne Community Center. Most events require little or no experience, and although some of the events are more strenuous, like pickleball, there are many choices that people of all physical abilities can participate in, such as card games, shuffleboard, timed jigsaw puzzles and billiards. Registrations are accepted two business days prior to events, and each registration costs $2. The 44th Annual Senior Games is sponsored by: Parkview Heart Institute, Indiana Donor Network, WANE 15, HoneyBaked Ham, WOWO 92.3 FM 1190 AM, United HealthCare, American Senior Communities, Park Place Senior Living and IU Health.

At the age of fifteen, Peter Noone achieved international fame as “Herman,” lead singer of the legendary pop band Herman’s Hermits. His classic hits include: “I’m Into Something Good”, “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter”, “I’m Henry VIII, I Am” and “There’s A Kind of Hush” among many more. Ultimately, Herman’s Hermits sold over fifty-two million recordings. In all, fourteen singles and seven albums achieved gold status. Calling all backyard gardeners…check out Grow Great Vegetables in Indiana for month-to-month advice with planning that is specific to vegetable gardening. Not only will you learn how to grow great vegetables, you will learn specifically when to sow and harvest in the Hoosier state! Meet award-winning author Bevin Cohen, and stay for his free “Grow What You Eat” workshop from 12:15-1:15 p.m. to get all the dirt and more. Learn about Bevin’s work as a food and garden writer, herbalist and host of the popular Seeds & Weeds podcast by visiting smallhousefarm.com. Admission is not required during this book signing event. Books are available for purchase in the Conservatory Shop.

  

Grow What You Eat

Have you ever thought to grow your own food? Bring your friends and learn together just how easy it can be! For gardeners of any level, join expert Bevin Cohen, owner of Small House Farm, and learn all about the benefits of living closer to the land through seeds, herbs and locally grown food. This program is available at no cost. Registration is not required.

Wednesday, July 5, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and continuing each Wednesday until September 6

Salomon Farm Park, 317 West Dupont Road

Find fresh produce, baked goods, honey and artisan crafts at this mid-week market. Tractor rides are planned for July 5 and the first Wednesday of each month until September 6, for $5 per person. Stop by and say hello to the newest members of the herd—Mickie and Frankie the Highland Coos as well as the goats, miniature horses and sheep.
