Hurshtown Reservoir opens for the season

Thursday, May 1, 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

16000 Roth Road, Grabill, IN

Hurshtown Reservoir may be the best fishing spot in Allen County. It also features a 2.75-mile walking path, areas for picnics plus kayak and rowboat rentals. It’s open daily seasonally May to mid-October. Admission is $5 per car or $1 to walk or bike in. Season passes are available to purchase at the reservoir. Fort Wayne, Ind. – Riverfront Fort Wayne presents the following events and programs at Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street and Headwaters Park, 333 South Clinton Street in May:

5K Virtual Challenge

May 26 – 30

Promenade and Headwaters Parks

Explore Promenade and Headwaters Parks while completing a 5K walk, run or crawl (choose your speed). Be active, enjoy the parks’ art installments, connect with the community and have the opportunity to win prizes along the way! Join the first 5K Virtual Challenge on the My Virtual Mission app, where participants will complete a 5K on their own time, anytime between May 26-30. Run or walk the course alone or team up with friends and family, and use the app to connect with the community! A prize will be awarded at the end of the week to the person or team who completed the challenge with the best time according to tracking on the app. Within the My Virtual Mission app, you can snap and share photos at sculptures and other landmarks for the opportunity to win a second prize for best landmark photos! Fee: $5 for youth, $10 per adult.

Playground at Bloomingdale Park closed for repairs

Fort Wayne, Ind –In order to address safety concerns to the playground at Bloomingdale Park, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation has installed temporary fencing around the playground. The repair and/or replacement of the equipment is estimated to take a few months, possibly into mid-summer. Until that time, the playground will be closed.

Dig Day

Saturday April 26, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Dino enthusiasts and earth explorers are invited to join the second annual Dig Day at Promenade Park. Guests can become a paleontologist for a day, uncovering delightful discoveries about dinosaurs and the earth. Activities will feature a dinosaur fossil dig bin and fossil dating. This free event is for youth in elementary and middle school who are interested in learning about the past.
