Fort Wayne Earns Tree City USA® and Growth Award

from Arbor Day Foundation

 

Fort Wayne, Ind – Mayor Sharon Tucker, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, Trees Indiana and other tree enthusiasts gathered today to celebrate Arbor Day. Fort Wayne has been named a Tree City USA® by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 35th consecutive year in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The Parks Department also announced that the city received a Growth Award for the 20th consecutive year for demonstrating environmental improvement and an outstanding level of tree care.

Plants Help Grow Young Minds and Good Citizens

The School Children’s Flower & Vegetable Association continues 99-year tradition   

Fort Wayne, Ind –For the 99th year, plants grown in the Lawton Park Greenhouse will be delivered to Fort Wayne students in kindergarten to grade three this week as a part of the beloved School Children’s Flower and Vegetable Association (SCFVA) program. Students are responsible to grow their plants and seeds which they enter in their schools’ annual Plant, Flower and Vegetable Shows held in late summer or early fall.

Bunny Tales in the Garden

Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Hop from one garden to the next while enjoying cheerful floral displays, interactive activities and a special appearance by the Easter Bunny. Children are encouraged to follow the trail through the Conservatory’s lush displays to discover the ‘ending’ to the Bunny’s tale—an in-person visit with the Easter Bunny! (Note: Bunny takes a break from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. A highlight of the event is the Color in Motion Live Butterfly Tent, where visitors can step inside and experience butterflies up close in a vibrant, interactive setting. Due to anticipated attendance, the Butterfly Tent will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with timed entries in five-minute intervals to ensure a positive experience for all participants. Registration Opens for Free Tree Seedlings

Bare root trees, ready to plant for Arbor Day  

Fort Wayne, Ind – In celebration of Arbor Day 2025, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation in partnership with Trees Indiana will offer over 150 seedlings to the public (one per household) via a simple phone registration.
