Applications for Citizen-Match Tree Program Now Accepted

Submit applications before July 1  

 

Fort Wayne, Ind –Applications are again accepted online or by mail for the annual Citizen-match residential street tree planting program. City of Fort Wayne residents may apply for a street tree to be planted in the street right of way (between the street and the property line) at a discounted rate of $50 after the application has been reviewed and the site has been approved.

Spring Celebration

Saturday, March 22, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Promenade Park

Celebrate the start of spring with a global twist at Promenade Park. This year will feature craft stations featuring spring traditions from Thailand, the Middle East, Germany and Bulgaria. Riverfront’s traditional spring celebration activities will also be back and better than ever with animal presentations from Indiana Wild and Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation Center, a plant walk, chalk art stations and more! Food trucks and music will round out the experience.

Wild Walkers

Friday, February 28, 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Mengerson Preserve, 5895 Stellhorn Road

This adult hiking group meets the second and fourth Fridays of each month for a walk on the wild side. Make new friends and take an easy mid-morning hike at Fort Wayne Park and Recreation’s Nature Preserve. Meet by the office at the park entrance on the first Thursday of the month and pick a trail. It’s free and no registration is needed. 

 

Spartans C.A.R.E. Wellness Fair

Saturday, March 8, 9:00 – 1:00 p.m.

McMillen Park Community Center, 3901 Abbott Street

Students from the Manchester University C.A.R.E. program will provide health screenings including blood pressure, vital signs, blood glucose and cholesterol levels. Additionally, interactive booths will offer wellness information and resources for raising healthy kids. Guests will enjoy free snacks and giveaways. The indoor playground will be open for kids.  

 

Kickboxing with 9Round

Sunday, March 9, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Kick and punch your way through a great workout at this free monthly exercise class. Instructors will lead participants in a calorie burning journey like no other.

 

Yoga on the Riverfront

Sunday, March 9, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

This free, relaxing one-hour flow yoga class is designed for all skill levels and led by owner of Discover Yoga, Chelsea Vona. Bring your own yoga mat to Promenade Park or borrow one for the class.

Sweetheart Orchid Display

Be allured by the colorful mystique of Orchids on display in the Botanical Conservatory’s Tropical House. Experience captivating, long-lasting blooms in an intimately devoted space that mirrors the everlasting love shared with those closest to you. Orchids and other noteworthy plants are available for purchase in the Conservatory Shop. The display is included with general admission.

 

 

Winter Showcase Exhibit: Floor is Lava!

It’s the hottest garden around as visitors to the Botanical Conservatory experience the daring feats of a favorite childhood game! This winter, don’t miss your landing, as you navigate a challenging set of obstacles for all ages and abilities. Fiery hues of reds and oranges flood the challenge course amidst towering tropical plants under the shadows of a roaring volcano. Don’t fall in–the Floor is Lava! Lisa Heintzman: Innovative Abstractor

See paintings inspired by the energy and emotions that Lisa Heintzman experiences. Heintzman is very observant of how one motion affects the next and how simple daily life has so many moments all compiled into one day. The artist paints abstract art with these emotions and perfect imperfections of each moment. Time is suspended in the paintings. Heintzman believes beauty is necessary and the intent and purpose is to help view the imperfect world by bringing calmness, joy and serenity of the movements in the paintings.
