NIPSCO is going to begin a voluntary remediation project on the St. Marys River soon which will result in some periods of closure of the river near The Old Fort, just south of Headwaters Park, along with some rerouting of nearby trails. Mayor Henry Leads Celebration:

 Completion of Wolf Family Learning Center Expansion

Fort Wayne, IN:  Today Mayor Tom Henry and Parks & Recreation Director Steve McDaniel celebrated the grand opening of the Wolf Family Learning Center at Salomon Farm Park off Dupont Road. The Learning Center added more than 4,000 square feet to a smaller facility and will offer many recreational opportunities to this popular park.

City Pool Closing Schedule

Fort Wayne, IN: Due to staff returning to school, McMillen Pool will close for the season at 7 pm, Friday, August 3 and Memorial Pool will close at 5 pm, August 5.

Northside Pool will remain open for the season until 5 pm Saturday, August 11.

The City’s free splash pads will remain open until the end of September, or early October, when they are winterized.

Fort Wayne, IN: Due to a scheduling conflict Pacific Coast Concerts has announced  that the Jay Leno show on August 4th, 2018 at the Foellinger Theatre in Fort Wayne, Indiana has been cancelled.

Customers who purchased tickets to the Jay Leno show from Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department via credit card will receive refunds automatically. Cash purchasers should return tickets to the Park Department office at 705 E. State Blvd. for refunds during regular business hours. For additional questions, please call 260-427-6000.

Tickets purchased at Wooden Nickel should be returned to the point of purchase for refunds.

Lifetime Sports Academy Presents Awards

Free program has served 27,961 children

Fort Wayne, Ind--Today marked the successful completion of the Lifetime Sports Academy’s 21st summer with more than 1,000 participants this year and a total of 27,961 participants over the last 21 years. Group lessons in the lifetime sports of golf, tennis and swimming were offered to boys and girls, ages 7 – 18. Lessons focused on skill development.

Each year, the Parks and Recreation Department provides certified coaching and highly trained professionals who direct lessons in swimming, tennis and golf. Offering instruction in three sports has been a successful formula throughout the years. The Lifetime Sport Academy has developed a solid reputation and attracts a huge number of kids each summer.

This year, the following numbers of lessons were given: 2,029 golf lessons, 1,051 tennis lessons and 1,023 swim lessons. Participants have the opportunity to earn new tennis rackets, golf clubs, and more. In 2018, 85 rackets and 21 sets of golf clubs were earned.
