Spirit of History Walking Tour
Friday, October 18, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Wells Street Bridge, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street
This walking tour will tread through the history surrounding the park, including its hauntings and vices. Hosts will endeavor to bring history to life by telling tales and breathing life back into the souls that still haunt our building and town—relax and enjoy the tour through time. This is designed for ages 13 and above. Admission is free.
Great Tree Canopy Comeback 2024
Saturday, October 19, 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Two sites in Allen County (see sign up form for more details)
The Great Tree Canopy Comeback (GTCC) began in 2001 with the mission and focus to restore a canopy that was found to be severely lacking in the Parks System. Since the first annual event, the GTCC has been responsible for planting nearly 3,000 trees in multiple parks and trails throughout the county. This planting success, with the addition of other tree care needs, led to the event evolving in 2018 to also include removal of invasive shrubs and trees from the parks’ natural wooded areas. This year you can choose to volunteer to help plant trees at Kreager Park on North River Road or protect biodiversity and habitats by removing invasive plant species near the Historic Fort Park at 1201 Spy Run Avenue. Feather Fest
Saturday, October 19, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Lindenwood Nature Preserve, 600 Lindenwood Avenue
Fly to Lindenwood Nature Preserve for a free family-fun birding festival. Explore up to four hiking trails with guides and watch for over 70 bird species. Special crafts and activities will thrill kids, live music with Sam Dell will add to the ambiance and Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation, ACRES Land Trust and Three Rivers Birding return to educate and entertain.
Halloween Haunt
Saturday, October 19, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Community Center, 233 West Main Street
Downtown Fort Wayne becomes a haven for monsters, ghosts, vampires and zombies on Saturday afternoon. Bring your little goblins to the Community Center for an afternoon of frightful fun. It will include games, a craft and a not so scary movie. Admission is free. Concessions will be available to purchase.
Rocky Horror Picture Show, Costume Contest and Fright Night Market
Saturday, October 19, Doors open at 7:00 p.m., Costume Contest at 8:00 p.m., Movie begins at 9:15 p.m.
Join the Botanical Conservatory in its 16th season screening of the time warp! New in 2024, a Fright Night Market will start off the evening activities. Also a costume contest with categories for Rocky Horror Character, Halloween costume and Zombie will offer fun for all. Weather permitting, this cult classic movie is enjoyed outdoors in the Terrace Garden in conjunction with the Downtown Improvement District’s Fright Night. Lawn chairs are welcome and encouraged. Food and beverage will be available for purchase from Shigs in Pit & Mad Anthony Catering; no outside food or beverage will be permitted. Please no rice or confetti during this participatory movie event. The movie is rated R with content not suitable for younger audiences. Attendees 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Sponsored by: ALT 99.5 FM & 102.3 FM and Shigs in Pit & Mad Anthony Catering. Admission: $10 per person.
Spooky Critter Houses: Bat Boxes
Sunday, October 20, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street
Did you know that a single brown bat can eat up to 3,000 mosquito sized bugs every night!? Join Riverfront and the Save Maumee Grassroots organization to build and decorate mini single-chamber bat houses and for these amazing natural pest managers. The bat box kits are made by Firefly Goods from repurposed wood and Save Maumee members will be on-site to help assemble the project. Guests will also get instructions on when, where and how to hang the bat home in the backyard. This is a great class for kids and adults alike. Parental supervision is required for children. Handmade Homemade Sale

Salomon Farm Park, 817 West Dupont Road
It’s not too early to start your holiday shopping! Crafters and artisans will sell their handmade homemade goods in the Wolf Family Learning Center and the Old Barn. Non-shoppers can enjoy an afternoon at the farm or walk the trail.

This adult hiking group meets the second and fourth Fridays of each month for a walk on the wild side. Each hike features a different natural area in the region (parks, wetlands, nature preserve, etc.) and carpooling is available when necessary. Storytime Hike: Leaves, Why They Change and Fall

Storytime hikes begin with a nature-related story presented by Allen County Public Library staff followed by a hike in the woods with a Lindenwood Preserve Naturalist. Sign up in advance at lib.in.us/children-programs or call any of the ACPL branches. This is a free program.
Garden Trick-or-Treat

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street
Round up the kids for family-friendly festivities at the Conservatory. Snap boo-tiful photos when showing off your favorite costume and visiting friendly stops with tricks and treats along the way. Take in the crisp air and vibrant fall colors along the Pumpkin Path Display. This is included with regular admission. Sponsored by Majic 95.1, Fox 55 and Koester’s Body & Frame Shop.
Riverfront Halloween Hunt
