11th Annual Great Tree Canopy Comeback

Volunteers and Donations Needed

WHO:              All ages of community volunteers are invited to join Friends of the Parks, Parks and Recreation staff from Fort Wayne, New Haven and Allen County Parks

WHAT:            11th Annual Great Tree Canopy Comeback, a grassroots movement to combat the critical loss of trees inFort Wayne. Our city and region is facing the devastation of the emerald ash borer; about one in four of our city street trees are ash and they will soon be gone.

Lindenwood Turns 25 and Celebrates Boy Scout Contributions 

To honor area scouts and to thank them for their ongoing care of Lindenwood Nature Preserve, the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department invites Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, as well as their families, to attend Lindenwood’s 25th anniversary celebration. Any boy interested in scouting is also invited to attend this free event. The celebration will take place at Lindenwood Nature Preserve, 600 Lindenwood Avenue, on Saturday,November 3, 10 am –12 pm.  If you are a Boy Scout or a Scout leader, please make plans to attend this celebration.

What’s Happening in the Parks October 20th 

Pumpkin Zone

Saturday, October 20, 10 am – 3 pm

Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun Street

Conservatory Admission: $5/adult, $3/child ages 3-17

Does a pumpkin float in the water? How many seeds does a pumpkin have? You’ll find the answers to these as well as many other things about pumpkins at the Pumpkin Zone! Bring the whole family and play pumpkin putt-putt and other games, make pumpkin crafts, taste pumpkin seeds, and watch a pumpkin carver.

City Youth Centers Participate in Safe Haven Classic

The Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department’s youth centers, Weisser, Cooper and Jennings, are participating in the Safe Haven Basketball Tournament October 12 - 13. The week’s activities begin with open houses at the three park sites and end with exciting basketball games at Lakeside Middle School, Prime Time Community Center and Greater Progressive Family Life Center.

Splash Pads Close for Season

Fort Wayne, Ind— As we prepare for colder temperatures, the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department will close the City’s splash pads Monday, October 1.
