Painting at Promenade Park

Tuesday, June 28, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Discover what happens when you mix acrylic paint, color, play and exploration and apply it to a canvas. Choose a landscape to paint and follow step by step with local impressionist artist and teacher Sarah Creason. No artistic experience is necessary. Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events and programs are happening the week of June 20-26:

 

Lifetime Sports Academy

Monday-Friday, 9:00a.m.-3:00 p.m. until July 22

McMillen Park, 3901 Abbott Street

The Lifetime Sports Academy is open to boys and girls ages 7-18 and offers free group lessons in the lifetime sports of golf, tennis and swimming. The program operates Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Group lessons in golf, tennis and swimming will focus on skill development, training, and participation and will be taught by certified coaches and highly trained professionals and volunteers. Participants may come as often as they wish and stay as long as they like. The Fort Wayne Community Schools summer lunch program will also be available at McMillen Park for Academy participants. The Lifetime Sports Academy is funded by the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department and Lifetime Sports Academy Committee and is offered FREE to area youth. 

  

Senior Games

Monday to Saturday through July 7 at various times

Games will be held at a number of event sites.

The annual Senior Games will run for approximately five weeks (until July 7) with the help of 50-plus volunteers, and feature more than 40 exciting events such as golf, shuffleboard, corn hole, pickleball, archery, horseshoes, kayaking, checkers, softball and so much more. The games provide benefits such as development of physical and mental strength, balance, lower blood pressure, increased self-confidence, increased mobility and an extension of life expectancy. Games are open to all men and women age 50 and older. Entry fees are $2 per event. The 2022 Senior Games is sponsored by Parkview Heart Institute, WANE-15, Indiana Donor Network, D.O. “Emergence: Live Butterfly Exhibit”

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

The live butterfly exhibit continues at the Botanical Conservatory bringing an array of natural beauty and wonder! As plants and butterflies emerge with warmer weather, we too unfurl like the tendrils of plants and the wings of butterflies. Flying, climbing and vining, they remind us of our own inner workings and what it takes to reach greater heights. Come “hang out” and enjoy a twist in this year’s exhibit where vines and butterflies intertwine! Learn more at botanicalconservatory.org. Trek the Trails Bike Ride

Rockhill Park, Meet across from 1747 Catalpa Street

The 2022 Trek the Trails season continues on Tuesday evenings. Meet across from 1747 Catalpa Street for a 7.5 mile ride. There is no cost to participate. All experience levels are welcome and participation is at your own risk. Riders are encouraged to wear helmets. Trek the Trails is sponsored by Trek Bikes Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne Harley Davidson, and UAW 2209. Pop-Up Concert: The Debutants

Connect with friends, live music and food at Promenade Park. Riverfront Fort Wayne and Trubble Brewing will host a fan favorite pop-up concert with The Debutants. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the first day of summer outdoors at the riverfront.   

 

 

Storytime at the Park

Wednesday June 22, and each Wednesday until August 31, 10:00-10:30 a.m.

Join the Allen County Public Library and Riverfront Fort Wayne for fresh air, sunshine and children’s literature at Promenade Park. Most dates will be held under the awning of the Park Foundation Pavilion. Drop in, it’s free!

Tread the Trails

Thursday, June 23, 6:00 p.m.

Rockhill Park, Meet across from 1747 Catalpa Street

Tread the Trails is for individuals of all skill levels; runners, walkers and wheelchair users are invited to participate. All Tread the Trails events are five kilometers in distance, with the option for a longer or shorter experience if the participant chooses. All should be prepared with water. Individuals participate at their own risk. Tread the Trails takes place every other Thursday. Tread the Trails is organized by Fort Wayne Public Works and Fort Wayne Trails in partnership with the Fort Wayne Running Club and the City of New Haven. Sunday Heritage Concert Series: The American Legion Band of Fort Wayne

This 101-year-old band was started by WWI Veterans over 100 years ago and is still going strong and continues to provide music for local patriotic events. Their singer, Dottie Mac, is sure to put a smile on your face as she accompanies the band in song and dance.

Fort Wayne, Ind – The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation offices will be closed on Monday, June 20 in recognition of Juneteenth. The Community Youth Centers and the Lifetime Sports Academy will also be closed.

The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Community Center, Day Camps, Johnny Appleseed Campground and the McMillen Aquatic Center will be open for normal operations. 

The Parks offices will reopen on Tuesday, June 21.

Fort Wayne, Ind – Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation announces that the Fort Wayne Area Community Band has canceled their “All American Band Concert” scheduled for June 14 at Foellinger Theatre. This is due to expected high temperatures and humidity and concern for the band and audience.

The Fort Wayne Area Band is set to play “An Evening with Sousa” at Foellinger Theatre on July 12, at 7:30 p.m. For a complete list of Foellinger Theatre concerts, visit the Theatre page at www.fortwayneparks.org.
