Vital Rivergreenway Connection Restored and Improved

Fort Wayne, Ind – The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department officially reopened the pedestrian bridge at Lawton Park, a vital connection to the Rivergreenway just north of the Old Fort. Mayor Sharon Tucker, Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel and Deputy Director of Planning and Landscape Chad Shaw spoke about the significance and value of the restoration to city residents and visitors this afternoon.

Community Extravaganza

Saturday, May 17, 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.

McMillen Park Center, 3901 Abbott Street

Free games, fun, prizes and food will be offered for families at the annual Community Extravaganza. This event will also include commercial vendors and community resource booths such as a pop-up job fair where those age 16 and above can apply for a job with Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation. Mother’s Day Plant Sale

Just in time for spring planting, the Botanical Conservatory offers over 700 varieties of plants at the annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale. Shop masses of locally grown herbs, vegetable starts, flowering perennials and native plants joining a host of annuals, mixed containers, hanging baskets, bonsai and houseplants. Essentials like potting soil and compost worms are also available. A team of knowledgeable plant advisors are even ready to answer questions and offer suggestions! This annual fundraiser supports Fort Wayne’s very own Botanical Conservatory. Sponsored by: Majic 95.1 WAJI, Fox55 and Koester’s Body & Frame Shop.

Hurshtown Reservoir opens for the season

Thursday, May 1, 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

16000 Roth Road, Grabill, IN

Hurshtown Reservoir may be the best fishing spot in Allen County. It also features a 2.75-mile walking path, areas for picnics plus kayak and rowboat rentals. It’s open daily seasonally May to mid-October. Admission is $5 per car or $1 to walk or bike in. Season passes are available to purchase at the reservoir. Promenade and Headwaters Parks

Explore Promenade and Headwaters Parks while completing a 5K walk, run or crawl (choose your speed). Be active, enjoy the parks’ art installments, connect with the community and have the opportunity to win prizes along the way! Join the first 5K Virtual Challenge on the My Virtual Mission app, where participants will complete a 5K on their own time, anytime between May 26-30. Run or walk the course alone or team up with friends and family, and use the app to connect with the community! A prize will be awarded at the end of the week to the person or team who completed the challenge with the best time according to tracking on the app. Within the My Virtual Mission app, you can snap and share photos at sculptures and other landmarks for the opportunity to win a second prize for best landmark photos!
