Fort Wayne, Ind. – The following events and programs are happening the week of November 4, 2019:

 

Dollar Night: Colorful Corn

Thursday, November 7, 6-7 p.m.

Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun St.

The Conservatory is open on the first Thursday night of the month for a discounted admission of just $1 per person. During each $1 Night you can also drop in to our program room for a fun and educational lecture or activity. No reservations required. This month, have you ever noticed that not all corn is yellow? At a time of thanksgiving, come learn about one of the oldest and most colorful varieties still being grown. Enjoy a popped snack and bead your own miniature cob to take home!

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Community Center is honoring the men and women who have served our country in the military by providing a free breakfast for veterans on Friday, November 8 at 8:30 am. Musical entertainment will be provided by the American Legion Band of Fort Wayne, and those in attendance are invited to stay after breakfast for Bingo.

Veterans can register with a guest by calling 260-427-6460 by Friday, November 1.

Punkin Path Garden Display

Open through October 27

Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun St.

The path will be decorated with pumpkins, gourds, bales of straw- and gnomes! – to provide fun photo memories. Gnomes are caretakers of land and animals; they are industrious, enjoy all kinds of games, and surprisingly, they love to travel! Watch for them along the Punkin’ Path and learn about them. This exhibit is included in Conservatory admission and open during public hours. Sponsored by Majic 95.1.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will be stocking the Spy Run Creek with trout and local fishers are invited to participate in a fishing day on Saturday, October 26. The fishing will be at Franke Park, 3411 Sherman Blvd. where a portion of Spy Run Creek and its banks has recently been restored to improve access, capacity, and overall stream health. This project was completed as part of a Parks capital improvements project with additional funding provided by grants from the DNR’s Lake and River Enhancement program, the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, Ducks Unlimited, and US Fish and Wildlife.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Mayor Tom Henry, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Director Steve McDaniel, community leaders and funding partners gathered inside the lobby of the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory to officially open the new Conservatory Connector. The $552,000 project links the Conservatory to the lower level of the Embassy Theatre, the Grand Wayne Center, the Fort Wayne Hilton, and other downtown destinations.
