Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation offices to be closed in recognition of Juneteenth 

 

Fort Wayne, Ind – The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation offices will be closed on Monday, June 19 in recognition of Juneteenth. The Community Youth Centers, McMillen Park Community Center and the Lifetime Sports Academy will also be closed.

Father’s Day in the Garden

Saturday, June 17 and 18, public hours

Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Treat Dad and Granddad to a special outing at the Botanical Conservatory where they get in free on Father’s Day weekend. While the family is entertained by live butterflies and beautiful garden displays, fathers can enjoy the visit with a beverage and snack available for purchase from Mad Anthony Brewing Company and Shigs in Pit (10:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and 12:00-3:30 p.m. on Sunday). New Park & Play Program Brings the Fun to Youth 

 Mobile Recreation Unit Begins June 12

 

Fort Wayne, Ind –Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation announces a new mobile recreation unit called Park & Play will bring free fun to neighborhood parks beginning on Monday, June 12 and continue through July 28.

Park & Play staff will bring fun and games for youth ages 5 and up. Morning and afternoon sessions will include a selection of sports, games, arts and crafts, fitness, nature and outdoor educational activities.

Young Street Trees At Risk During Dry Conditions 

 Parks Department arborist offers tips to mitigate stress

 

Fort Wayne, Ind –In these abnormally dry conditions, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department arborists encourage residents to help young trees thrive with supplemental watering.

Superintendent of Forestry Operations Derek Veit observes “water is the most important element in caring for young trees. New trees and those that have been planted within the last three years have not fully extended roots into the soil and need adequate moisture to reach the root ball.”
