Outdoor landscapes are continually being influenced by the work of nature such as through movement of trees, reflections in water, dark shadows from clouds or shimmering light on a dewy morning. To the human eye, these random transformative effects are wildly emphasized as part of an intentional landscape. Inspired by the joy and happiness of the natural world, landscape architects have long embraced randomness.

Fort Wayne Parks reopens restored Pavilion 3 in Foster Park

1930’s era open-air building ready for public use

Fort Wayne, Ind –Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation gathered with Mayor Tom Henry, Friends of the Parks of Allen County and South West Area Partnership at Pavilion 3 in Foster Park to celebrate the success of a multi-year effort to partner, plan and complete an accurate restoration of the historic picnic shelter and the surrounding Oak Grove recreational site. This public-private partnership brings new life and opportunity for reengagement with a little-known section of Foster Park.

Bare root trees, ready to plant for Arbor Day

Fort Wayne, Ind – In celebration of Arbor Day 2023, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation in partnership with Trees Indiana will offer over 100 seedlings to the public (one per household) via a simple phone registration. Black Cherry tree seedlings will be offered on a first come first served basis. Those who want a free tree seedling should call 260-427-6000 during normal business hours now through April 27 to reserve a seedling. The bare root seedlings must be picked up on Friday, April 28, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at McCormick Park, 2300 Raymond Street (near the old Harvester Plant).

Salomon Farm Park Welcomes Two Highland Mini Calves and Three Nigerian Goats

Fort Wayne, Ind—Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation announces five additions to its historic Salomon Farm Park. Two Highland mini calves and three Nigerian dwarf kid goats join the thriving goats, pigs, miniature horse, rabbits and chickens which make their home at this beautiful landmark working farm and park.
