Sensory Workshop Series: Floam

Friday, April 14, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Park Foundation Pavilion, 202 West Superior Street

Take control of your sensory needs through crafts, discussions with sensory professionals and other resources. This spring Riverfront Fort Wayne will offer one DIY craft that involves all five senses on the second Friday of each month. The April project is Floam, which has a unique and calming texture and is easy to make. Sessions begin promptly at 6:10 p.m. Thanks to the generosity of the AWS Foundation, this program is offered free to the public, however registration is required. Yoga on the Riverfront

Sunday, April 16, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

This free, relaxing one-hour flow yoga class is for all skill levels and led by owner of Discover Yoga, Chelsea Vona. Bring your own yoga mat to Promenade Park or borrow one for the class.

 

 

Sunday Heritage Concert Series: The Fort Wayne Children’s Choir

Be inspired by the harmonic sounds of the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir. Concerts are free and open to all ages. Seating will be on a first come first served basis.

 

 

Literacy Expo at Promenade!

Sunday, April 23, 1:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.

Park Foundation pavilion, Promenade Park, 202 West Superior Street

Join us for the very first Riverfront Literacy Expo in celebration of World Book Day. Learn about programs and organizations that provide reading assistance and other literacy services in Fort Wayne. There will be activities for the entire family, including book readings, meet and greet with local authors, an open mic poetry reading from 11:00-noon and  a poetry scavenger hunt. Guests can also check out a book from the Human Library, learn about local sports teams reading programs, enjoy food trucks and more. Donate gently-used children’s, fiction and non-fiction books to benefit mini libraries in local parks. This FREE community event is a great way to engage and learn through others perceptions, struggles and growth by sharing experiences and various forms of literature.

Slightly Used Bulb Sale

April 6-April 30, Public hours

This annual sale features slightly used tulips, daffodils and hyacinths from the Botanical Conservatory’s spring exhibit. Located in the outdoor Sales Garden, bulbs sell for $1.95/pot and are ready to plant in preparation for next year’s bloom! Purchases are made through the Conservatory Shop while supplies last. Admission is not required to shop.

 

Bunny Tales in the Garden

Friday & Saturday, April 7 & 8, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Hop from one garden to the next as part of “Bunny Tales” at the Botanical Conservatory. Along the way, enjoy festive activities, happy spring blooms and the cutest little Easter animals. Discover the tale’s ending when visiting the Easter Bunny! Bunny goes on break from 11:30 am-12 pm and 1:30-2 pm. General admission fees apply. Be sure to experience this Cali-cool winter exhibit. Sponsored by the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation, Howard P. Arnold Foundation, Magee-O’Connor Foundation, PNC Charitable Trusts, The Waterfield Foundation, WANE 15 and 103.9 Wayne FM.

Kerstin Glaess: “Coast to Coast”

Kerstin Glaess is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist working primarily in oil, collage and photography. She is best known for her paintings based on photographs and memories from her worldwide military adventures as a child. Kerstin continues to be inspired by a nature collection of flora, fauna and landscapes from her various homes across two continents, two countries, eleven states, one U.S. Territory and counting! Her diverse collections of collages and drawings focus on the shared human experience teasing the borders between dreamscapes and reality. Coast to Coast is fittingly on display during the California Dreamin’ Showcase Exhibit at the Botanical Conservatory.

Spring Celebration at Promenade!

Spring is the season of new beginnings. Fresh blooms open, animals awaken, and the earth seems to come to life once more. Come out and join the celebration at Promenade Park. It includes an educational and entertaining presentation from the Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation Center. See their amazing birds of prey up-close from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the pavilion. Prior to or after the presentation, join a birdwatching tour, make bird seed crafts, and learn the basics of birdwatching. Binoculars and craft materials for kids and adults will be provided. Finally, don’t leave the park without making a fun paper bag kite craft and completing a scavenger hunt that will have you exploring the fresh sights, smells, and sounds of the beginning of Spring. Stop by anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for this FREE event.

Learn some new moves at the riverfront. Shuffle into the Park Foundation Pavilion on Wednesday night to learn and practice a new style of dance. Instructors from a variety of local dance groups and schools will offer lessons at the beginning of the night followed by open dancing. The March 29, featured dance will be the Cha Cha Cha and also traditional cultural dances. All ages and abilities are welcome. Register in advance for $10 per class online at www.fortwayneparks.org or by calling 260-427-6000. Drop-ins are available for $12 per session if space is allows. Maximum: 100.

Connect with Fort Wayne’s rich railroad history at the Botanical Conservatory where local railroad clubs present various displays ranging from G scale to HO to tiny N scale model trains and more.
