Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is excited to invite families, friends, and neighbors to McKinnie Commons, one of the city’s newest parks, for a season full of free family fun, live music and community celebration. Located at the corner of McKinnie Ave. & Anthony Blvd., McKinnie Commons is quickly becoming a go-to destination for community gatherings, live entertainment and memorable summer moments. This summer, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is bringing the park to life with a series of free events.

The Lifetime Sports Academy at McMillen Park is a great place for kids and teens to spend their summer. This free program is open to boys and girls ages seven to 17 and offers group lessons in golf, tennis and swimming. It runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and participants can attend as often as they like during those hours. Lessons are taught by trained coaches and volunteers who enjoy helping kids learn and grow.

Fort Wayne summers are made for sunshine, sidewalk chalk, laughter and… a whole lot of playing! If you’ve got kids looking to burn off some energy and try something new, Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation has just the thing: Park & Play.

Running from June 6 through August 1, this unique program brings the fun straight to local neighborhoods, offering free, action-packed activities for children ages 5 and up. No sign-up. No cost. Just show up, grab a hula hoop or paintbrush, and let the fun begin. 

Spend Your Wednesdays at Salomon Farmers’ Market
Wednesdays, 4:00–7:00 p.m. | Until–September 3

Nothing says summer like a visit to a farm market. From the smell of fresh baked goods to the sound of live music and the friendly atmosphere, it’s a great way to break up the week and pick up fresh ingredients to get you through to your next shopping trip. Every Wednesday until September 3, Salomon Farm Park hosts the Salomon Farmers’ Market, a place to relax, explore local goods, and enjoy the season.

Looking for a way to keep the kids active, engaged, and having fun this summer? Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation has it covered with their popular Summer Activity PODS. Positive Outdoor Days of Summer or PODS is a series of exciting, half-day programs designed to spark creativity, build friendships, and keep kids moving all summer long.

Let the Games Begin: The 46th Annual Senior Games Returns June 2–July 2

Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation is excited to welcome back the 46th Annual Senior Games, running from June 2 through July 2, 2025. This long-standing tradition brings together adults who are age 50 and older for a month filled with competition, community and fun. From classic games to new challenges, the Senior Games offer a wide variety of ways to stay active and engaged.

If you’re looking for a simple, fun way to spend a Saturday morning with the kids, mark your calendar for June 7. The 37th Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby is happening at Hurshtown Reservoir from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m., and it’s the kind of event that brings families together in the best way outside, in nature, doing something everyone can enjoy.

The Sweet Breeze Canal Boat is getting ready to cruise again, and it’s the perfect way to enjoy summer and fall in Fort Wayne. Starting May 24 and running through October 12, visitors can climb aboard for a relaxing ride down the St. Marys River. Tickets are on sale as of May 1, so now’s the time to start planning.

Summer wouldn’t be complete without a little sunshine, some fresh air and maybe even a few muddy boots. That’s exactly what kids can look forward to at Farmin’ Fun Day Camp at Salomon Farm Park. Hosted by Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation, this one-of-a-kind camp gives children and teens the chance to roll up their sleeves, learn where food comes from, and experience the simple joys of life on the farm.

The annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale is back and ready to kick off the spring season with a huge selection just in time for planting. Hosted by the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, this annual event is happening Friday, May 9, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the McMillen Park Community Center, 3901 Abbott Street.

Spring is in the air, and so are butterflies! The Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory is back with one of its most exciting events of the year! Color in Motion: Live Butterfly Exhibit, returns from April 11 to June 22 during public hours. If you’ve ever wanted to be surrounded by fluttering wings and bright colors, this is your chance to experience just that.

Spring is just around the corner, and that means its time to dust off those golf clubs!

Fort Wayne is home to Foster, Shoaff, and McMillen Park golf courses, each offering something different for golfers of all skill levels. Foster Park Golf Course, located at Rudisill Blvd. and Old Mill Road, is known for its beautiful landscape and traditional championship style layout. Shoaff Park Golf Course, on St. Joe Road, is a par 3 course and also features a driving range perfect for warming up or practicing your swing. McMillen Park Golf Course, on Oxford Street, offers a relaxed atmosphere with both an executive style course and driving range.

Salomon Farm Park offers unique opportunities for anyone interested in the art of cooking. With a variety of hands-on classes, participants can learn new skills, taste delicious creations and gain confidence in the kitchen. These classes are perfect for anyone, from beginners to seasoned cooks. Each session is led by experienced instructors who love sharing their passion for food. Here’s a look at the upcoming spring cooking classes being offered. 

Spring is in the air, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with Bunny Tales in the Garden at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory! On Friday and Saturday, April 18 and 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., families and friends can enjoy a day full of Easter magic, blooming flowers and adorable animals. 

Looking for a unique and adorable way to spend your day? Salomon Farm Park has just the thing with their Sheep Snuggles and Highland Cow Meet & Greet events! These fun, hands-on experiences are perfect for animal lovers of all ages and offer the chance to get up close and personal with some of the cutest farm animals around.  

Stargazing Nights: Explore the Wonders of the Night Sky

Stargazing Nights at Lindenwood Nature Preserve offer a unique chance to step away from the bright city lights and dive into the wonders of the cosmos. Led by local astronomer Dale Ruppert, this free event gives people of all ages a chance to learn about constellations, meteor showers and the moon—all while enjoying a peaceful night outdoors.
